The first time players enter Solitude in Skyrim they will witness the execution of Roggvir. If you are a Stormcloak, or just like chaos, you might want to try to stop the execution. You were saved from yours by Alduin, so why not give it forward? Unfortunately, it can be very hard to take care of all of the guards surrounding Roggvir in time and he is also extremely feeble, dying in one shot. So, can you actually save Roggvir from his execution in Solitude in Skyrim, or is he fated to death, no matter what you do? You can find the answer below.
Can You Save Roggvir in Skyrim?
Players have tried absolutely everything they can to save Roggvir in Skyrim. There are two popular choices that fans had when they wanted to try this out:
- Kill the guards
- Conquer the city, without ever entering it before
Killing the guards without any attack hitting Roggvir can be very hard, but it is very possible. If you manage to defeat everyone, Roggvir will run away. However, he will only return later to the execution spot and have a heart attack.
This means that attacking the Imperials will get you nothing more than a fine and a dead prisoner anyway.
The other clever method that some players came up with is that you only enter Solitude after you’ve conquered it with the help of the Stormcloaks. If you do this, you will never witness Roggvir’s execution, but you will hear guards in the town talk about it.
The Stormcloak guards will talk about regretting they couldn’t save Roggvir in time, implying that the execution happened off-screen.
This means that there is no way to save Roggvir in Skyrim, no matter what you do. Even just using the command console to kill everyone besides him will just result in a heart attack, making this event pointless choice-wise.
How to Save Roggvir in Skyrim Using Mods
There is a way to save Roggvir in Skyrim, but you will have to use mods. Since there are revival spells in some mods, you can always just bring him back to life.
Though the High-King’s guard will be alive, he will never talk and he will just walk around. However, there is a special mod, made by Korodic on the Nexus, which allows you to save Roggivir, called About Roggvir…
In this mod, Roggvir won’t get instantly executed when you enter Solitude. Instead, the Nord will be imprisoned and you will have 7 days to escape him from prison.
Though there aren’t any long term rewards for doing this, you can feel better knowing that you managed to save one more Stormcloak.
