Baldur’s Gate 3: Karmic Dice On or Off? Best Option

Baldur's Gate 3 Karmic Dice On or Off Best Option

Most CRPG fans come into a game like Badlur’s Gate 3 expecting to know exactly how everything works. However, once you look through the settings a bit, you might stumble into a toggle option that you might have no idea about how it works: Karmic Dice. Essentially, BG3 does its best to keep things fair for the player and the AI and it likes to give you dice rolls that even out throughout the game. This means that if you roll a perfect 20 once, you are very likely to get a 1 in the near future. So, considering how this mechanic works, should you or should you not enable Karmic Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3? Here is the answer.

What Are Karmic Dice in BG3?

Karmic Dice is a setting in BG3 that makes sure that players don’t get endless streaks of good or bad luck. This just makes sure that dice rolls aren’t 100% random and that you can’t get ten ones in a row.

However, many might consider that this makes the experience worse since the dice aren’t truly random. If you have Karmic Dice on and you get a critical hit, you are very likely, in the near future, to get bad luck on a different roll.

For example, if you roll a check where you only need a 5 to pass and you get a 19, then you’ve basically wasted a good roll. This good roll will later come back to bite you since you will likely get a bad roll to make the “karma” right.

Should You Play BG3 With Karmic Dice On or Off?

You should turn the Karmic Dice off in BG3 if you want a truly entertaining experience. If you play with Karmic Dice on and off, you can instantly tell the difference.

The main place where you can tell the difference is AC. If you have AC over 20 with Karmic Dice on, you will get hit as often as someone with 12 AC. However, if you have lower AC, you won’t get hit as often as you would expect.

This will also work for attacks. If you have better optimized builds, you will see that you get hits more often. Also, battles will end a lot quicker, since you and your enemies will hit each other more often.

Since most players would actually like to see the results of their min-maxing, turning off the Karmic Dice will make the game a lot more satisfying and enjoyable.

Karmic Dice are automatically turned on, so make sure to open the Settings, scroll down in the Gameplay menu, and toggle the Karmic Dice off.

And that is all you need to know about if you should turn on or off Karmic Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out other interesting BG3 guides and articles:
