If you are just getting started in your Baldur’s Gate 3 adventure and are creating your character, you might notice that both the Monk class and the Barbarian one have the Unarmored Defense feature. This feature allows you to gain extra AC if you don’t wear armor either from Constitution (as a Barbarian) or from Wisdom (as a Monk). Most players that see this would think that they’ve just stumbled into a huge exploit since you might be able to stack the Unarmored Defense from these classes and get AC from Dexterity, Constitution, and Wisdom. Well, can you actually stack the Unarmored Defense that you get from the Monk and Barbarian classes in Baldur’s Gate 3? You can find the answer below.
Can You Stack the Unarmored Defense from the Monk and Barbarian Classes in BG3?
After we have unfortunately tried this out on our first playthrough, we’ve discovered that you can’t stack the Unarmored Defense buff from the Monk and Barbarian classes in BG3.
If you multiclass Monk and Barbarian you will get the best out of the two bonuses. So, if you have a +3 Constitution modifier and a +2 Wisdom modifier, you will only get the +3 one from Con as AC.
Though this might ruin the plans of some players to make a Monkbarian build, as you can’t get insane AC right from level 2, you could still consider multiclassing these two. The Monk class has the great Dexterous Attacks feat which allows them to scale Monk Weapons with Dexterity.
If you pump one level into Barbarian, you can get proficiency in all the weapons in BG3, allowing you to use your Dex modifier to fight using Battle Axes and other Strength weapons.
You can also invest only in Dexterity and Constitution, as you won’t need either Strength or Wisdom with this build, allowing you to start the game with 16 AC.
And that is all you need to know about how to stack Unarmored Defense in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out other interesting BG3 guides and articles:
