After years of anticipation, Type-Moon and Studio BB’s remake of their 2010 PSP JRPG Fate/Extra, Fate/Extra Record has received a new trailer at Sony’s State of Play Japan. This trailer showed off many gameplay and story elements of the game and confirmed a release date. Fans of Saber, Caster, and Archer will finally be reunited with them much closer than you’d expect.

This trailer showcased all three of the game’s main servants as well as most of the game’s boss battles, including a guest appearance by Arcueid from Type-Moon’s Tsukihime franchise. One detail fans quickly noticed in this trailer is that some characters have different skills from earlier showcases, with Archer in particular standing out.

The gameplay of Fate/Extra Record is very different from the original game, as instead of going for a Rock-Paper-Scissors styled battle system the game instead uses a card-based system similar to games like Slay the Spire, but with a visual style closer to the cards seen in Fate/Grand Order.

Fate/Extra Record was in the news cycle multiple times this year as Bandai Namco dropped the game as a publisher and the game’s director Kazuya Nino left the project. This created a lot of fear in fans that the game would be canceled, but thankfully those fears have proven to be unfounded with this new trailer.

The title was originally announced in the July of 2010, and while there were multiple estimated release years before now, this is the first time that Fate/Extra Record has gotten a solid release date, exciting fans all around the world.

Fate/Extra Record is currently scheduled to release on January 28, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC systems. The game will be published by Type-Moon, Aniplex, Xseed Games, and Marvelous. The title is being developed by Type-Moon’s Studio BB with some assistance from Koei Tecmo.
