Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most popular games of 2023 (and possibly the decade), but that doesn’t mean it’s not challenging or has no difficult fights. In fact, it offers some of the most fun battle experiences, even if you’re not a fan of turn-based games. With that said, getting hit and having your characters die all the time is NOT fun. So, if you’re curious about Baldur’s Gate 3 highest AC and how to build your AC so you can enjoy fights, you’re in the right place. We’ll discuss Armor Class and everything related to it so you’ll be more knowledgeable and win more fights.

What is the Highest AC Players Can Get in BG3?

Based on information provided by players online, it seems that the highest AC they could get in BG3 was between 25 and 27.

There are outliers, of course, but most players should be able to build their Armor Class to roughly this range without the help of spells or potions. Naturally, if you’re playing a class that isn’t proficient in Heavy Armor, you won’t reach such high numbers.

Fortunately, BG3 has many items that provide extra protection, and there are many spells that will keep your more squishy characters safe during battle.

What Is AC in BG3?

The name is somewhat deceiving. You don’t have to wear Armor to have Armor Class. AC is basically the calculation of how likely your enemies are to land their hits.

Remember, D&D is all about rolling and getting the right numbers. If your attackers roll higher or the same as your AC, they will hit and deal damage to you. If they don’t, their attack misses. It’s the same when you attack a foe.

Tips on Reaching Baldur’s Gate 3 Highest AC Stats

You don’t have to wear the best Heavy Armor in the game to have the highest AC in BG3. You just need the right gear. Spells and Potions can also increase your AC. Here are a few ideas on boosting your AC so your characters are protected and live longer:

  • Grab a shield — Shields can give you a +2 on AC, with special shields giving +3
  • Get the Ring of Protection — Mog can give you a +1 AC ring in the Druid Grove
  • Buy armor — Always keep an eye out for better armor; you’d be surprised what you can find at traders
  • Boost your Dexterity — If you wear Light or Medium Armor, having high Dexterity scores will give you an AC bonus
  • Mage Armour — This Spell can give your Wizard a basic AC of 13 and add their Dexterity modifier
  • Mirror Image — You create three duplicates of your character and each of them increase your AC by 3 until they’re destroyed
  • Take Armour Feats — Invest points in Armour Feats at Level 4 (such as Medium/Heavy Armour Proficiency)
  • Consider the Defensive Duelist Feat — You use your Reaction to increase your AC if you’re attacked with a Melee Attack
  • Potion of Speed — This underrated Potion gives you additional Action for three turns as well as a +2 to AC

In Baldur’s Gate 3, getting the highest AC possible is important for the survival of your characters. But getting there shouldn’t be your main focus.

Enjoy the game itself and as you progress, experiment with combinations of Spells, Feats, Armours, and everything you can find to boost your AC. Find what works for your characters and have fun.
