Baldur’s Gate 3: All Time Sensitive Quests

Baldur’s Gate 3 All Time Sensitive Quests

In the ever-evolving world of Baldur’s Gate 3, time is of the essence. This article delves into the realm of time sensitive quests in Baldur’s Gate 3, where the choices you make and the speed of your actions can dramatically influence the outcome of your adventures. As you navigate this captivating RPG, you’ll encounter quests that demand swift decisions, urgent action, and a keen sense of timing. We have compiled a list of all of the time sensitive quests in Baldur’s Gate 3, which we have categorized by Acts, where we will tell you exactly how you can mess them up and miss them out.

All Time Sensitive Quests in Act 1

Act 1 has the largest amount of quests you can miss out on, since there are a lot of moving parts that advance into the next Acts. It is very likely that you can skip them by accident just walking into the wrong region.

We won’t mention the quests that end because you moved to a different Act, since that is relatively straightforward. We will only mention the quests that end because you took a Long Rest or because you let some hidden in-game timer pass.

Emerald Grove and Surroundings

  • Save the Refugees – If you defeat Zevlor, as Kagha asks, or anger the Druids and trigger a cutscene where they start fighting the Tieflings, the Druids will finish the Ritual of Thorns, sealing the Druid Grove forever after a Long Rest, ending all the Druid/Tiefling quests. Going to the Mountain Pass also causes this to happen. Otherwis, the Druid Grove won’t close off in BG3, no matter how many Long Rests you do.
  • Investigate the Beach – Once you hear music and you start this quest, you have to go down to the beach and save Mirkon. Otherwise, if you Long Rest, you will fail the quest. You can also fail this quest before even getting it if you finish the Druid Grove quest line first.
  • Save Arabella – Arabella won’t survive her encounter with Kagha if you defeat the Goblin leaders before saving her.
  • Save the Goblin Sazza – Sazza will die the moment you defeat the three Goblin leaders if she is still inside the cage in the Druid Grove.
  • Steal the Sacred IdolThe Idol of Silvanus will disappear from its spot in the Grove the moment you finish the Goblin quest line.
  • Rescue the Gnome – Once you discover the Gnome tied to the windmill, you will get this quest. If you ignore what is happening and Long Rest a few times, he will disappear.
  • Find the Missing Shipment – Once you get the “Help the trapped survivors” entry in your Quest Journal for this quest by finding the Gnolls surrounding a cave, the people inside the cave will die if you Long Rest.
  • Rescue the Trapped Man – The moment you discover Waukeen’s Rest, everyone inside (Benryn and Counsellor Florrick) will die if you leave the area.
  • The Githyanki Warrior – If you find the Githyanki patrol next to Waukeen’s Rest while Lae’zel is in your party, she will leave you to talk to them. If you go to Camp without joining her or go too far from her, she dies.
  • Save the First DruidHalsin will free himself without your help if you Long Rest after defeating the three Goblin leaders.
  • Raid the Emerald Grove – The moment Minthara sets off to destroy the Druid Grove, you will have to Long Rest for the battle to actually happen. Once this happens, all the quests related to Druids, Tieflings, and Goblins will end. If you Long Rest a second time, the raid on the Grove will happen without you, resulting in a victory for the Goblins.

Underdark and Grymforge

  • Cure the Poisoned Gnome – Dies if you Long Rest without helping her or if you complete the Free True Soul Nere quest.
  • Free True Soul Nere – Nere and the gnomes trapped inside can die after you enter the Grymforge area if you Long Rest, visit the Camp with your whole party more than once, or leave the region more than one time.

Mountain Pass

The Mountain Pass has no time sensitive quests in BG3. Even though Lae’zel insists that you have to quickly reach the Creche, otherwise something bad will happen, nothing happens unless you enter the Shadow-Cursed Lands to the west.

All Time Sensitive Quests in Act 2

  • Find Rolan in the Shadows – If you enter Shadowfell before meeting him or if you ignore him after finding him alone in the shadows by leaving or by doing a Long Rest, he will die.
  • Seek Protection from the Shadow Curse – If you wait to long or Long Rest after the Harpers leave to ambush Kar’niss, they will fail and you won’t be able to get the Moonlantern from him.
  • Lift the Shadow Curse – Halsin dies if you Long Rest or leave him alone after he enters Shadowfell.
  • Rescue the Tieflings / Wulbren – Entering Shadowfell before saving them will result in their death.

All Time Sensitive Quests in Act 3

  • Rescue Orin’s Victim – After you enter the Sewers, one of your companions will be kidnapped. If you Long Rest 3 times after starting the Infiltrate the Murder Tribunal quest, the companion will die.
  • Help the Devilish Ox – Leaving Rivington will end this quest.
  • Free Counselor Florrick – The timer and quest start by reading the execution notice near the gallows of the Lower City and it will end in failure after 5 Long Rests.
  • Stop the Presses – The timer for this quest starts after you talk to Ettvard Needle. Just starting the quest by talking to Estra Stir still gives you an unlimited time to finish it. After talking to Ettvard Needle, you have 1 Long Rest to finish the quest.
  • Investigate the Murders – If you Long Rest after talking to Devella at the Elfsong Tavern, Cora Highberry will die.
  • The Grand Duke and Save the Gondians – You will only have 5 to 6 turns (depending on difficulty) to save Duke Ravengard and the Gondians.
