Armored Core 6, the 2023 release from the acclaimed developer FromSoftware, renowned for iconic titles such as Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, represents a triumphant return to the roots of the franchise which first emerged in 1997. While staying true to its foundational principles, this latest installment boldly adapts to contemporary gaming preferences. Central to the series’ enduring appeal has been the capacity for players to meticulously craft and customize their mechanized war machines, a facet that remains integral to achieving success in the game’s challenging missions. In this exploration, we delve into the intriguing realm of Armored Core 6 mech customization, with a particular focus on the creation of a dual wield melee weapons build, offering an in-depth analysis of its viability and effectiveness in the game’s futuristic battlegrounds.
Can You Dual Wield Melee Weapons in Armored Core 6?
In Armored Core 6, unfortunately, you cannot dual-wield melee weapons without the use of mods. The melee weapon is always locked onto the left hand as a result of this but there is an unofficial workaround that some players have been able to develop in order to fulfill their dreams of dual-wielding melee weapons.
Many players have speculated as to why FromSoftware found it necessary to remove a gameplay mechanic that was present in Armored Core 4 but the majority opinion is that dual-wield melee weapon builds have been overwhelmingly advantageous, thereby creating a disparity between those who prefer to play with long-range weapons.
How to Dual Wield Melee Weapons (Unofficially) in Armored Core 6
In technicality, this is not a dual-wield melee weapon build in AC6 but rather a method utilizing two melee weapons consecutively by dropping the weapon on hand once the hit has landed and reset the combo once the enemy has staggered. Theoretically, this should net the player at least 4 straight hits (including the punch) to the enemy AC.
To get something close to a dual wield melee weapons build in Armored Core 6, follow the instructions below:
- OS Tuning: Be sure to have unlocked the Weapon Bay OS for your AC as this will be a key component in doing dual-wield. If you haven’t unlocked it, you may need to advance along the campaign (if you just started) or fight more foes in the arena to gain the necessary resources to unlock it.
- AC Design: In this area, you will need to have a melee weapon equipped on your AC’s left hand and one on the bay (on the shoulder) as well. Follow this by choosing a booster with a short-duration quick boost since melee attacks will need this to attack. A good consideration here as well is to pick a melee weapon with a high stagger stat.
- In Combat: Once in combat, the combo is simple: attack the enemy with your first melee weapon and use up all its hits (some melee weapons have 2 hits instead of one) then drop it in favor of your shoulder weapon, attacking once again till the hits have been exhausted, dropping it, punching the enemy, and repeating the process all over again.
While this may not be the typical dual-wield build most players have envisioned in Armored Core 6, it is a workaround that may suffice. Likewise, the player may wish to take out the punch from the combo and opt to reset immediately after the hit.
Mods
As of this writing, there is no mod so far that fills this niche but as the game is still relatively new, the possibility of a mod arriving to enable this kind of build should not be discounted. Players should keep an eye out on official forums and Steam workshop for any possible mods.
