Armored Core 6 Balteus Guide - How to Beat and Best Build

Armored Core 6 heralds the return of a classic series dating back to 1997, developed by FromSoftware, promising a fresh experience after an eight-year hiatus since the last installment in 2013. This latest iteration immerses players in the role of a mercenary controlling a customizable mech, navigating the mysterious world of Rubicon. In this guide, we’ll dissect the multi-phase battle against the final boss in chapter 1, Balteus, offering expert strategies to conquer this mechanical behemoth and thrive in the revitalized world of Armored Core. Whether a seasoned veteran or a newcomer to the series, Armored Core 6 offers heart-pounding action and tactical depth that’s not to be missed.

How to Beat Balteus in Armored Core 6

Balteus appears at the end of the final mission in Chapter 1 in Armored Core 6 and will need to be defeated in order for the player to progress to the next level.

Unlike previous mechs faced in Armored Core 6, such as the Juggernaut at Operation Wallclimber, Balteus will require extra effort to eliminate as it can easily decimate an unprepared player’s mech.

First Phase

To begin, Balteus boasts an impenetrable pulse armor, rendering your mech’s attacks ineffective while it’s active. However, when this armor is temporarily down, it presents a window of opportunity to strike, causing significant damage.

Balteus specializes in medium and long-range assaults in Armored Core 6, making it crucial for players to recognize and adapt to these strengths. Additionally, Balteus tends to reposition before launching missile barrages, a behavior worth closely monitoring.

During the initial phase of the battle, Balteus relentlessly hammers your mech with a barrage of missiles and bazooka fire. To counter this onslaught, consider closing the distance with Balteus to diminish the effectiveness of its ranged attacks.

Another effective tactic involves luring the missiles toward the midway point and then swiftly boosting toward Balteus, rendering the missiles unable to track you.

In summary, the first phase demands constant vigilance, requiring you to evade missile attacks while persistently targeting Balteus’s pulse armor. An assertive approach generally yields better results, as it gains the upper hand over a defensive strategy when facing Balteus.

Second and Third Phases

Once Balteus sustains damage equal to 50% of his Armor Points (AP), the encounter enters its second phase, during which Ayre urgently advises the player to maintain a safe distance from the mech. Failing to heed this warning results in a catastrophic explosion that obliterates the player’s mech, necessitating a complete restart.

In the second phase, Balteus shifts tactics, engaging in close-quarters combat by executing a barrage of slashing and multi-chain attacks. Caution is paramount, particularly when contending with the latter, as it adheres to a discernible pattern, entangling the player if not evaded skillfully.

The third phase sees Balteus augmenting his arsenal with flame-based assaults, effectively countering any attempts at close-quarter engagement. Vigilance against these long-range fire attacks is imperative, demanding constant evasion.

Balteus possesses the capability to impose an anomaly upon the player’s mech in Armored Core 6, which, when fully charged, increases susceptibility to staggering.

The optimal strategy for evading Balteus’s flames involves ascending when he initiates his assault runs (provided an adequate distance is maintained) or venturing beneath the mech, a riskier alternative.

During this phase, a cautious approach from mid-range is advisable, gradually chipping away at Balteus’s AP. When he embarks on his attack runs, opportunities to retaliate present themselves. Consistently launching missile and rifle salvos from a distance allows for manageable progression in the battle.

Best Way to Counter Balteus in Armored Core 6 – Best Build

When facing off against Balteus in Armored Core 6, your mech’s key strategy should prioritize agility and swiftness to evade his array of devastating attacks. Here’s a recommended loadout:

  • Head: Opt for the Melander model.
  • Arms and Legs: Equip the Nachtreiher components.
  • Core: The choice is yours, but remember the previously suggested strategy.

  • It’s imperative to wield a pulse rifle in one hand and a sword in the other.
  • As for your back-mounted arsenal, select the laser cannon and missiles. These weapons serve specific roles: the pulse rifle and laser cannon efficiently penetrate enemy shields, while missiles inflict substantial damage when Balteus is staggered.

You have the flexibility to replace the sword with another pulse rifle or laser cannon, further facilitating shield disruption though this remains the player’s prerogative and is based on their preferred playstyle.

Notably, opting for a lightweight configuration comes with trade-offs. With lower AP (Armor Points) and carrying capacity, precision becomes paramount.

Utilize pulse rifles and laser cannons when you have a clear shot at Balteus, reserving missiles for moments when he’s vulnerable. Homing missiles, in particular, prove highly effective in these situations. Tactical shots and adept dodging are your allies in this intense battle.

A heavyweight Armored Core 6 build does exist for Balteus but will make it difficult than most to dodge his attacks though it should be able to theoretically take on most of Balteus’ attacks.

Be sure to pick the best OS tuning upgrade to suit your playstyle.
