If you don’t have the most powerful gaming gear out there and your PC tends to disappoint, you might stumble into a huge problem while playing Baldur’s Gate 3. If your GPU is older or weaker than the required minimum, you will end up seeing a weird bug where the minimap and map are just black. You can still see the quest markers and NPC locations, but you can’t actually see the terrain of the map. This is a horrible bug that will ruin the experience for most of the players, especially in the later Acts, where the maps are a lot like labyrinths. So, is there any way to fix the black map and minimap bug in Baldur’s Gate 3? Here is the answer.

Can You Fix the Black Map and Minimap Bug in BG3?

No, there is no way to efficiently fix the black map and minimap bug in BG3. There is a special method that will make the map appear, but the performance of the game will significantly drop and you will have to play on Low quality to at least get something close to 30 FPS.

Right now your best bet would be to search online for the maps and look at them while playing, to kinda get a hang of where you are on the map.

The developers have heard about the bug and have promised to fix it close to the official release of BG3, but there haven’t been any improvements, not even with Patch #1.

How to Fix the Black Map and Minimap Bug in BG3

Players can use special software that translates DirectX programs to Vulkan for Linux, which you can use to force BG3 to open with Vulkan on your Windows PC and show you the map properly. Unfortunately, you will lose a lot when it comes to performance, so make sure to change your settings properly.

You can open this page to get DXVK version 1.10.3, which has been proven to work with most older GPU models, and download the dxvk-1.10.3.tar.gz file. Extract the file somewhere on your computer and open the x64 folder.

Copy the dxgi.dll and d3d11.dll files and paste them into your bin folder in the Baldur’s Gate 3 directory (location where you installed it). Open the DX version of BG3 and try to see if you can handle the horrible stuttering and lag.

And that is all you need to know about how to fix the black map and minimap bug in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out other interesting BG3 guides and articles:
