The first thing you will notice at the start of Baldur’s Gate 3 is that you cannot make your character pass a certain Ability score cap in character creation. This usually isn’t a problem, as you can increase these stats later in the game, allowing you to get more powerful modifiers for those Abilities. However, no matter how much you want 30 Strength, some things just aren’t possible. In this guide, we will tell you what the general Ability score cap is in Baldur’s Gate 3, depending on which methods you use to increase these stats.

The Ability Score Cap in BG3

There are three situations in BG3 where your Ability score will have a hard cap, and all of these are based on how you gain the Ability points.

The first one is at the start of the game, in character customization. In BG3’s character customization, you have a hard cap on Ability score at 17. You cannot get more than 17 points in any Ability during character creation.

The second Ability score cap is based on Feats. You can increase your Ability scores using Feats, and you will notice that you can take the Ability Improvement Feat 3 times, allowing you to get +2 in an Ability score 3 times.

Due to this powerful method to increase Abilities, the hard cap on Ability score using Feats in BG3 is 20.

Still, there are other methods to increase your Ability score in BG3 besides Feats, and those should let you get over 20. Using methods such as Auntie Ethel’s Hair, you can get even more than 20 in an Ability.

So, the real soft Ability score cap in BG3, considering the game’s start, Feats, and other increase methods, is 24. There is no way to get over 24 points in an Ability in BG3, which makes this the game’s soft cap.

Still, at an Ability score of 24, you get a +7 modifier on that Ability, which makes your character a god amongst men.

And that is all you need to know about the Ability score cap in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out other interesting BG3 guides and articles:
