In the haunted realm of Phasmophobia, horror adventure awaits the daring players. As ghost hunters, you are tasked with unraveling the mysteries of the paranormal entities and must be well-prepared to do so. Your primary focus lies on gathering clues and evidence to identify the different ghosts and succeed in the contracts. In this guide, we talk about one such terrifying shapeshifter – the Obake – and explain all about its behavior, unique identifiers, abilities, and pieces of evidence in Phasmophobia. So next time you’re on a contract, you’ll have this guide to help you.

Obake Behavior in Phasmophobia

As with all the ghosts in Phasmophobia, it’s important to remember Obake’s behavior, unique identifiers, abilities, and journal evidence to guide you in identifying the ghost. In the Phasmophobia Journal, you’ll find that the Obake’s behavior is described as:

Obake are terrifying shape-shifters, capable of taking on many forms. They have been seen taking humanoid shapes to attract their prey.”

We have put together a complete list of Obake behavior in Phasmophobia:

  • Obake is a stubborn ghost when it comes to giving evidence.
  • You will hear/see it interacting with the environment (light switches, doors) but does not leave a trace at all or for a long time.
  • When it does leave a trace (16.7% chance) it is usually a unique fingerprint apart from the usual ones.
  • They move at a regular speed of 1.7m/s (player walking speed = 1.6m/s, sprint speed = 3m/s).
  • Its speed slightly increases when hunting within the line of sight of the player.
  • Starts a hunt when a player reaches 50% sanity.

Obake Journal Evidence

In addition to behavior, you’ll need to gather the following Journal Evidence for Obake in Phasmophobia:

  • EMF Level
  • Fingerprints
  • Ghost Orb

Obake Unique Identifiers

Here are some of Obake’s unique identifiers and hidden abilities in Phasmophobia:

  • Guaranteed to shapeshift for a split second at least once per hunt in addition to the 6.66% chance (it can take forever, so be patient).
  • Shapeshifting also includes changing positions e.g. walking to crawling in between the flickering.
  • 16.7% chance of leaving a unique 6-fingered handprint on doors and two thumbprints on light switches. It will show five fingerprints on keyboards and prison doors instead of four.
  • Has a 75% chance to leave fingerprints on standard difficulty and a 100% chance in Nightmare/Insanity mode.
  • Hidden ability includes reducing the fingerprint visibility duration in half. Meaning, fingerprints can often disappear earlier than the general 2 minutes rule.

Pro tips:

  • In order to take ghost photos for cash rewards and see the ghost form to verify for shapeshifting, try looping it around.
  • On zero-evidence runs, Obake will never leave fingerprints. Instead, use your looping skills to look for and verify shape-shifting.

And that is all you need to know about how to figure out if you are facing an Obake in Phasmophobia. Check out other interesting Phasmophobia guides and articles:
