How to Fix Can’t Buy Items in Phasmophobia
Here are several reasons why you can’t buy items/ equipment in Phasmophobia:
- First, you need to check if you are at the right level (the required XP) to “buy” the items to begin with.
- You probably also can’t buy due to a current bug where you can’t buy even if you’re at the right level. This happens when you have the “exact” amount of money required to purchase that item. If you can get a dollar or two extra, you can buy it.
- You may not be able to buy items because you’re confused between buying and loadout screens. You need to buy at least the optional equipment first before loading out.
- You may not have enough money.
- The other reason why you can’t buy items is because you’re struggling with figuring out how to navigate the shop/storage and how to buy. We’ve got that explained below.
Can’t Buy Items – How to Navigate the Shop to Buy Items

Here’s a very simple explanation of how you can navigate the shop/storage to buy items. As an example, let’s say you want to “buy” a Sound Sensor:
- Go to the Equipment Store menu, which you can access from the main menu by navigating using the keyboard arrow keys, or clicking the right arrow from the main menu. You can also click on the computer screen in the lobby to access it.
- Go to the “Shop/ Storage” tab → Click on the Sound Sensor → You’ll see a description of the item as well as the “cost” (which is $80) and how many you currently own (owned = 0 right now).

3. Go to the “Loadouts” screen, as shown above, → Click the “+” sign to add the item to the right preview column → You’ll see an option to “BUY: $80”, click that → Then click “ADD”. After that, the Sound Sensor loadout on the right will change from 0/1 to 1/1 – meaning you’ve bought and loaded out one against your owned inventory of one Sound Sensor.
4. Next, you can click back on on the Equipment List contract screen to see the item you’ve added. In our case, it’s the Sound Sensor that we just bought, which now shows as 1/4 – meaning 1 loaded out in the truck against a limit of 4 that you can possibly carry with you to the contract. As you can see in the screenshot below:

Tips
You can also buy from the Shop/ Storage tab too. You can use that tab if you want to buy bulk items. The shop allows you to buy and sell each item individually. It also shows a description of each item as well as a buy and sell cost along with how many you currently own.
You only have to “buy” the items/equipment if you do not have enough to meet the loadout quantity. By buying the items, you’ll ensure that you have bought enough of them to match the loadout quantity.
