One of the oldest debates in the Mount and Blade community is to decide which one is better: the crossbow or the bow. We all know that both ranged weapons can deal a lot of damage if you know how to aim and invest enough skill points into them. However, how do you know which one is better? Even though they have almost the same name, they are extremely different. So, in this article, we will compare the two weapons, crossbow vs bow, and tell you which one is better in Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord.

Crossbow vs Bow – Which One is Better in Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord?

To see which one is better in Bannerlord between the crossbow and bow, we will need to list their advantages and disadvantages:

Crossbow

  • Advantages:
    • High Damage
    • High Accuracy
    • Crossbow Troops are Better in Melee
  • Disadvantages:
    • Long Reload Speed at Low Levels
    • No Damage Increase Until Final Perk
    • Most Can’t Reload on Horseback

Bow

  • Advantages:
    • Quick Reload Speed
    • Damage Increase For Every Level Up
    • Best Horse Archer Troops in the Game
  • Disadvantages:
    • Low Damage at Low Levels
    • Low Accuracy at Low Levels
    • Lower Base Damage

Crossbow is Better Early Game

By considering these stats, we can easily come to the conclusion that, if you don’t want to invest a lot of levels into ranged weapons, the crossbow is the better weapon in the early/middle game.

The crossbow can get easy headshots even at level 10 and it will allow you to get insta kills even on heavily armored troops. The crossbow also has some amazing perks if you get more levels into it, but it is preferably a weapon for lower level characters.

Due to this fact, crossbow troops are also better if they are still low level, as they still have a high chance of hitting their targets, as opposed to bow archers.

Bow is Better Overall

But, if you really want to become a master in one of them, then the bow is the best ranged weapon in Bannerlord. At close to maximum level, the bow has almost perfect accuracy and deals a lot of damage.

Since it can also reload faster, you will be able to shoot the bow as well as you would a gun. High level bow troops are also superior, especially if they are on horseback. If you set them to skirmish, they will decimate even heavily armored cavalry.
