What all Baldur’s Gate 3 players know after a few hours of gameplay is that everyone hates Mindflayers. This is why there are a lot of people scared of your tadpoles and your powers. However, Omeluum, the Mindflayer hidden in the Underdark Myconid Colony, seems to want to help you out with your tadpole problem. After you gather two ingredients for him, Omeluum will brew a potion and offer it to you to drink it whole. So, what happens if you drink the potion Omeluum gives you in Baldur’s Gate 3, and do the repercussions have long-term effects? Here is the answer.

Should You Drink the Potion Omeluum Gives You in BG3?

If you drink the potion Omeluum just brewed in BG3, you will go through a few checks where you will fight with your tadpole, but, even if you fail or succeed, the tadpole will grow stronger. This will result in you gaining the Survival Instinct ability.

Now, here are the story repercussions of taking the potion. If you drink the potion, one very major character in BG3 will talk to you in Act 3 as if you’ve used Illithid powers, even if you didn’t, if you drank this potion and unlocked this new skill.

However, this does not mean you will become a Mindflayer or become evil since you will have a choice later in the game whether you want to give in to the powers or remain fully independent. You can reject becoming a Mindflayer even if you consumed all the possible tadpoles with your character.

So, gameplay-wise, it would be much better to drink the potion Omeluum gives you in BG3 because you unlock the Survival Instinct ability, a power that can heal an ally instantly the moment they reach 0 HP. You can use this power once per Short Rest.

Does Something Happen to Omeluum If You Take His Ring in BG3?

The next big thing in this BG3 interaction is that Omeluum will offer you the ring that protects him from the elder Mindflayers. Most good players will wonder if something bad will happen if they take this ring from Omeluum.

Well, we have some very good news. Nothing bad will happen to Omeluum if you take his ring and you will see him again later in the story.

The only way you can “hurt” Omeluum is if you give Lady Esther the Githyanky Egg. If you do this, you won’t see him again later in the game.

Major spoilers here, but the ring will also protect the player wearing it from becoming a Mindflayer in Act 3. However, you will have no reason to wear it until then.

And that is all you need to know about what happens if you drink Omeluum’s potion in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out other interesting BG3 guides and articles:
