On November 30, 2023, video game developer Larian Studios released the fifth major patch for their critically acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3. This patch is advertised as adding new epilogue scenes, Honour Mode, and much much more to the game.
This is the fifth release in a series of major patches that change large portions of the game. The game’s first and fourth major patches focused on fixing thousands of glitches, the second added various features such as Withers’ Wardrobe of Wayward Friends, and the third focused on adding Mac support.
The major gameplay addition in this patch is a whole new epilogue chapter that takes place six months after the main game. This new epilogue will give players the opportunity to say goodbye to their party members as well as call back to every choice they made during their journey and the consequences of then.
This epilogue will include new cinematics, extra music for Bobby, and even special cinematics for Gale and Lae’zel. In addition to this, new clothing such as Odin’s outfit will be added to the game’s loot system.
The new epilogue isn’t the only thing added to the game with this patch, as players will also be able to experience Baldur’s Gate 3 all over again with two new difficulties: Honour Mode and Custom Mode.
Honour Mode is advertised as the new highest difficulty in the game, topping even the previous Tactician Mode. This mode makes the game more challenging both in and out of combat with over 30 tweaks to every boss in the game, including new legendary actions to catch players who have already beaten the game off guard.
Players who can somehow beat all of Honour Mode without dying a single time will receive an item known as the Golden D20, a symbol of pride and accomplishment.
The other new difficulty, Custom Mode, allows players to completely customize the game’s difficulty to fit their needs. Allowing players to have a Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign that feels specifically built for them.
The full patch notes for Patch #5 can be read on Larian Studio’s Steam page. Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available to purchase on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and GOG. An Xbox Series S|X port of the game is also expected to be released in 2023, but no release date has been given currently.
