Phasmophobia is a great online co-op paranormal investigation game with a cool range of ghost-hunting equipment. Before starting a mission, you must buy and load all the necessary equipment. These include parabolic microphones, smudge sticks, D.O.T.S Projector, and so on. One of them – the Crucifix – is a very important and rather complex piece of equipment to use. Many players wonder why they cannot use the Crucifix properly. In this guide, we help you with everything you need to know about the purpose and function of the Crucifix in Phasmophobia and how to use it properly to protect yourself during ghost investigations from supernatural entities.
How the Crucifix Works in Phasmophobia
The Crucifix in Phasmophobia prevents a ghost from entering its physical form to attack you (with the exception of Cursed Hunts which are brought on by using Cursed Possessions).
It is used to prevent the ghosts from initiating hunts (which also happens to be one of the game’s objectives). Each Crucifix can be used twice, hence, understanding when and how to utilize it effectively is very important.

How to Use the Crucifix Properly in Phasmophobia
To maximize the Crucifix’s effectiveness, proper placement and timing are crucial. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you use the Crucifix in Phasmophobia:
- Place the Crucifix centrally in areas with high ghost activity or ghost rooms.
- Place it or drop it on the floor to activate it. If you hold the F key (while crouching) you can see its protection radius before you actually place it.
- The Crucifix has a protection radius/ range of 3 meters (5 meters if it’s a Demon).
- It can stop hunts even through walls, doors, and furniture within the 3 meter range.
- If it’s a large area, place two Crucifixes so as to create a 3×3 meter range overlap.
- If it’s a smaller area, place a Crucifix in the center and the other one near your escape route.
- It will not work effectively against roaming ghosts, especially if you are not sure where they will start their hunt.
- If the ghost room changes, take the Crucifixes and place them in the new ghost room.
- When the Crucifix is within the 3m range of the ghost and tries to initiate a hunt, it will be prevented from doing so and part of the Crucifix will burn. If it tries again and fails most of the Crucifix will burn and it can no longer be used.
- The Crucifix is unable to stop an active, ongoing hunt and can only prevent a hunt from happening in the first place.
- The ghost must try to initiate a hunt from within the Crucifix range. So if it hunts outside that range, the Crucifix won’t stop it.
