Crusader Kings II (CK2) has always brought a lot of fun to its fans through its incredibly strange events. The Strange Chest event is another one of these fun moments in CK2 that many of us have either enjoyed a lot or haven’t even managed to finish. Not ending an event chain happens very often for the veteran CK2 player, but with our help, you can find out how to finish the Strange Chest event (or event trigger it in the first place), and what you can expect to find inside.

Strange Chest Event Explained in CK2

CK2 Crusader Kings II Strange Chest Item and Event Nothing Result

Only Norse, Danish, and Swedish Viking Raiders have (and will) ever stumbled into the Strange Chest in CK2. This is because you can only get this item through raids. Once a holding has been looted, the event can randomly trigger, getting you the Strange Chest in your Treasury.

Now, to open the chest, you will first have to find a key for it. This is completely random and can be gained through raiding, as well. Players will most likely find the key in faraway lands that have nothing to do with the location they found the chest. You will easily figure out that you got the key since the triggered event will make it obvious.

Players that open the CK2 Strange Chest can get 4 different, random results:

  • 32% chance of gaining 200 Gold
  • 32% chance of gaining 10 Gold
  • 32% chance of gaining Nothing
  • 4% chance of meeting a Seraphim

The first 2 results are pretty self-explanatory. When opening the chest with the hard-to-get key, you can either get a pretty decent haul (200g) or some salvageable items (10g).

For the “Nothing” outcome, the player will have found the Ark of Covenant. Fans can read in-between the lines and realize that they found an amazing, antic artifact. However, your pagan raider won’t realize what a fascinating item they have found and they will just bury it, gaining nothing from the process.

The Seraphim outcome is very similar to the earlier outcome since the player gets nothing out of it. However, this event isn’t so scary. After opening the CK2 Strange Chest, you will read a wholesome event and meet a Seraphim. Meeting this angel, unfortunately, won’t have any huge repercussions gameplay-wise.
