The bot issue in TF2 is twofold. First, there are tens of thousands of idling bots operating the game in text mode to farm item drops, which are then sold in bulk by a small number of individuals controlling these bot farms. Secondly, there are also cheating bots that infest the actual game servers, disrupting gameplay and rendering the game nearly unplayable for genuine players.
