Early in the afternoon of April 11, 2024, video game developer Atlus surprised everyone by releasing a new English trailer and Japanese Famitsu article for their upcoming JRPG title: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. This trailer highlighted many story and gameplay changes players can expect from the title.
This new Sacrifice trailer focuses on the new secondary story created for this expanded version of the game and the changes players can expect from it. Highlighting plot changes such as new characters showing up and the new tasks Nahobino will go through in the game’s new region of Da’at: Shinjuku.
Throughout the trailer, we see glimpses of the new features that will be available in the game’s second story such as playable human party members and a myriad of new demon skills.
The new gameplay features as highlighted in the trailer and Famitsu article are as follows:
The “Devil Backyard” is a new location that can be accessed through the leyline fountain scattered throughout Da’at. You can view demons using a free camera range, share gifts, and have special interactions with demons and Aogami at this location.

The protagonist’s dorm room will be a location players can visit throughout the game. At this time the purpose of this dorm room hasn’t been elaborated on

A top-down camera angle has been added allowing for easier discovery of items and other landmarks in Da’at.

One brief gameplay segment featured in the trailer shows that for at least one quest in the game, players will be able to run around and play as the series mascot character: Jack Frost.

The most surprising feature highlighted in the trailer was a showcase of a new transformation for the game’s protagonist, Nahobino, where he adopts a new masked look and dual-sickle weapons that slice right through enemies

This new form for Nahobino in particular has excited many Shin Megami Tensei fans both for the gameplay possibilities it may have and for the plot implications that him receiving a new form has.
While many people were mixed on the original version of Shin Megami Tensei V, Vengeance appears to be trying to please all fans of the series with the many changes it is making. Hopefully this title will be one that truly satisfies Shin Megami Tensei fans of all flavors.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is expected to launch on June 14, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S|X, and on PC via Steam.
