During the second day of Gamescom, THQ Nordic released a new trailer for Frostbytes’s much-anticipated side-scrolling platformer Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy. The trailer highlights the gameplay of the recurring character Amadeus the Wizard.
The trailer begins by showing off Amadeus’s levitation abilities, showing him moving boxes in his path to progress. After this, the trailer highlights objects Amadeus can conjure out of thin air to progress through the stage. These objects include planks to form bridges, boxes to stack or jump on, and rolling balls to run atop.
Creating objects out of thin air isn’t the only way Amadeus can traverse through the stage though. He can also create bursts of air which serve as a secondary jump and he can combine various objects in a stage to form structures such as bridges.
Another method of traversal available to Amadeus is the ability to reverse gravity. With this gravity spell, he can send objects flying to the top of the screen to form a path or even send deadly obstacles offscreen entirely.
Amadeus’ magical abilities aren’t just limited to objects around the stage. He can also levitate enemies to throw them off cliffs or even hold them like a shield to defend himself from other foes.
Aside from levitating enemies, Amadeus can also fight back using various elemental spells. Such as creating a hailstorm using planks above the heads of enemies, conjuring bursts of wind to deflect enemy projectiles, and making the boxes he levitates explode on contact.
The trailer ends with a cutscene of Amadeus encountering a large person in a building, upon seeing the person he exclaims that they are not Margaret and that he doesn’t know who or even what they are. Giving players a brief mystery to look forward to when the game releases.
Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy releases on August 31st, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are currently available for all platforms.
