Sakura Wars 2 Translated into English After 27 Years

After nearly 30 years, one of the best games Sega and Red Company have ever produced is now available in English via a fanmade translation: Sakura Wars 2 Beloved, Thou Must Not Die for the Sega Saturn.

Today, a fan translation group led by a user named NoahSteam released their fan translation of this Sega Saturn classic, with an update thread, download link, and video uploaded to the social media platform BlueSky.

The Sakura Wars franchise has always been overlooked in the west despite being a landmark title in the evolution of several gaming genres like visual novels and Strategy RPGS. Even when the first two games received ports to Dreamcast and PSP, they weren’t given English releases.

Sakura Wars 2 was first released for the Sega Saturn in 1998 and is considered by many fans to be one of, if not the best, game in this franchise. While there were previously written guides to help players enjoy the experience, the joy of actually playing the title in a language you could read was reserved for Japanese fans.

Now, thanks to a group of die-hard fans, gamers around the world will finally have a chance to experience and appreciate these fantastic cult classics.

With Sakura Wars 2 now in English, only two mainline games in the franchise and several spinoff titles remain Japanese only. Perhaps one day in the future English-speaking fans will be able to experience the entire Sakura Wara franchise.
