A fan translation group has taken it upon themselves to present a stage show about one of Sega’s Sakura Wars games to an English-speaking audience!
Sega’s Sakura Wars franchise has always been unique in the gaming world for being one of only franchises to consistently have grand stage productions alongside the game’s, due to the game’s concept of following an acting troupe.
Unfortunately, none of these stage shows made their way overseas at any point in the franchise’s life cycle. The closest English fans have come to experiencing these was a prior fansub of Sakura Wars Kaijin Bessou in the 2010s. Which is why it was such a surprise when another group announced that they had subbed another show!
The new and upcoming fantranslation group the Meigumi has allegedly been spending the past year fantranslating the Shin Sakura Wars stage concert titled Shin Sakura Taisen the Stage Ouka no Utage ~Nimaku~! Which they have translates the title as “A New Concert Under the Cherry Blossoms”.
Shin Sakura Taisen the Stage Ouka no Utage ~Nimaku~/A New Concert Under the Cherry Blossoms isn’t a fully original story like most Sakura Wars stage productions, but rather a concert experience where the cast performs a multitude of beloved songs from both the newest game and several classics from the 90s and 2000s.
This stage show stars the cast of characters from the newest Sakura Wars games which was released by Sega in 2019. While none of the characters are played by their voice actors like in older titles, they are still played by an incredibly talented cast.
While the Meigumi hasn’t announced the specific date they’ll be releasing their fan translation of this stage show, they have put out a preview video on the social media platform Twitter. Hopefully, we see the full release sooner rather than later.
Sakura Wars (2019) is currently available to purchase on only the PlayStation 4. There are currently rumors about another game currently being in development.
