On December 18, 2023, video game developer Rocksteady Studios took to Twitter to respond to recent controversial leaks about their upcoming release Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The post read thus:
We’re looking forward to players experiencing the story we’ve crafted in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League once the game launches in the new year. We hope everyone can play the game and feel each moment of the narrative for themselves.
It is very disappointing to see details being shared ahead of the game’s release, so we can only urge you to try to avoid spoilers where you can. And please try not to impact the enjoyment of other players by posting spoilers
We look forward to seeing you all in Metropolis on 02-02-24
This post was made in response to leaks posted about the game’s alpha build on the social media platform Reddit on December 17, 2023. These posts contained major story spoilers for the game including audio lines from the final performance of Kevin Conroy’s Batman.
These story leaks, particularly the voice lines, would later be shared by many large Twitter accounts. The contents of this scene angered many fans of Batman: The Animated Series and the Batman: Arkham games, causing the leaks to spread even further.
While some claim that the leaks are being taken out of context and that the final product will portray these scenes in a different way, many on social media have already begun to curse the writers at Rocksteady.
These leaks are only the latest controversy to hit Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, as the game has been mired with bad press and reception due to other management decisions such as the game not launching with an offline mode.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is expected to launch on February 2, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam.
