Over the past week, the internet has been alight with discussion over a recent data breach at Insomniac Games that has leaked out the personal info of employees, revealed budget details about the company’s games, and most relevant to today details about their upcoming Wolverine title.
These Wolverine leaks have ranged from footage of the game’s developmental stages to a currently playable PC build of the game’s alpha. While some DMCAs have been issued to those who have downloaded this data, there is no stopping the spread of information about it on social media.
In response to this, Insomniac Games took to the social media platform Twitter and made an official response to these leaks. In this response the company details how they are both saddened and angered by this data breach, and the whole situation has been distressing.
This response also dispels the fear that many online had about the game potentially being canceled or development rushed due to the leak. According to the response, production on Wolverine will continue as planned.
It is also stated that Wolverine is in early development and that there is no doubt the game will greatly evolve from the state players have seen it in during the past few days.
The data breach at Insomniac Games is only one of many recent incidents like this online. Game publisher Capcom also had a massive data breach like this in 2020, with both employee and customer information being available online.
More recently, Rocksteady Studios’ superhero title Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League had much of the game’s story leaked online, causing the studio to make a very similar post to Insomniac.
Insomniac’s Wolverine title is currently slated to release exclusively for the PlayStation 5, there are currently no officially released details about the game’s release date.
