In Old School RuneScape, the economy is dependent on the relationship between the crafter and the consumer. Since the introduction of the Grand Exchange in 2015, players have been selling both components and completed crafted items on the virtual marketplace to bolster their profits and stats alike. In the Crafting skill, there is an abundance of money-making methods and doors to be opened to kit your character in the best possible way. Hitting that esteemed level 99 can be tricky, however, with a fair amount of it being buy-to-grind (Ironmen aside). Without further ado, here’s a 1-99 Crafting guide for OSRS!

OSRS 1-99 Crafting Guide

To become a master crafter in OldSchool RuneScape, players will typically have to invest a significant amount of GP into the Crafting skill.

[It is entirely possible to reach 99 by procuring all the materials first-hand, however, this will take an incredibly long time compared to using the Grand Exchange. So, this guide will focus on the quickest way to Level 99 Crafting, with a couple of money-making opportunities on the way.

Starting off, players should focus on creating Leather Items from levels 1 to 20. This includes boots, gloves, a coif, and eventually body armor.

To craft with leather, players will need a needle and some thread, obtainable from Dommik’s Crafting Store in Al Kharid or Rommik’s Crafty Supplies in Rimmington. From level 20 onwards, there are several paths players can take on their Crafting journeys.

OSRS Crafting Guide: Quests To Start Off

When it comes to gathering Crafting Skill experience in OSRS, you don’t always have to interact with the skill alone.

Many quests across Gielinor offer experience in Skills as a reward for completing them, along with extra rewards that might help you on your journey. Some recommended quests for leveling Crafting include:

  1. Conservatory Quest; This quest has no requirements and offers a hefty 2,500 Crafting experience, which is enough to jump from Level 1 to 15.
  2. Elemental Workshop 1 & 2; These are not the most popular quests to complete in OSRS, but they are simple and offer a total of 12,500 Crafting experience for completing them both. The only requirements are 20 Crafting, 20 Mining, 30 Smithing, and 20 Magic.
  3. Enlightened Journey; This is a fun quest that also unlocks a new transport option for players. It offers 2,000 Crafting experience, and requires 20 Quest Points, 20 Firemaking, 30 Farming, and 36 Crafting, making it fairly accessible once you start the Crafting skill.
  4. The Fremmenik Exiles; This quest has a few high-level requirements, including previous entries in the Fremmenik questline. However, it offers a massive 50,000 Crafting experience reward among other enticing incentives.

OSRS Crafting Guide: Cutting Gems

One of the most reliable – and potentially expensive – ways to gather a significant amount of Crafting experience in OSRS is through cutting various types of uncut gems. These can range from the simple Sapphire to the elusive and pricey Dragonstone.

This is the favored method of most OSRS players in reaching the higher end of the Crafting skill, opting for other options at around Level 70. Here is the list of gems players can cut:

  1. Sapphires (Level 20 Required); roughly 106 needed to be cut to reach Emerald.
  2. Emerald (Level 27 Required); 150 are needed to increase Crafting from level 27 to 34.
  3. Ruby (Level 34 Required); these are the gems favored by many as the best. There is a fairly minimal loss per gem cut, and the XP is a steady 229,500 p/hour if training efficiently.
  4. Diamond (Level 43 Required); Diamonds are an excellent training method, however, are rather costly so many players continue to cut Rubies instead.
  5. Dragonstone (Level 55 Required); It is not advisable to train using Dragonstone, as the experience per cut does not justify the immense cost per gem.

In theory, players could continue to cut gems all the way to level 99, but there would be significant losses by the time they reached their ultimate goal.

Instead, players have the option of either selling their creations and using the remaining GP to finance the next Crafting grind, or they can use the gems to craft amulets and other accessories for further Crafting XP.

Levels 63-99: Dragonhide

The second half of the OSRS Crafting grind highly favors crafting Dragonhide bodies and for good reason. Whereas cutting gems mostly ended in a loss, there is actually a consistent and potentially profitable market for making armor out of Dragonhide.

If players keep a watchful eye on the Grand Exchange for a shift in D’hide armor prices, they can make their money back and more.

Here are the best items to make using decide, and how much money you could make from each. Note: the prices in this guide might not always reflect real-time Grand Exchange prices.

  1. Green Dragonhide Body (63 Crafting); Profit per cast of High Alchemy = 337 GP.
  2. Blue Dragonhide Body (71 Crafting); Profit per cast of High Alchemy = 313 GP.
  3. Red Dragonhide Body (77 Crafting); This item is the best to craft while still turning a (small) profit.
  4. Black Dragonhide Body (84 Crafting); should only be made if players are chasing pure experience, as it results in a 1000 GP loss per piece of armor.

Alternate Method for 1-99 Crafting on OSRS: Blowing Molten Glass

Finally, we have an incredibly slow but incredibly cheap and easy method for reaching Level 99 Crafting in OSRS. Blowing molten glass with a glassblowing pipe is ideal for those who like to train while doing something else, as it has huge AFK potential due to its speed.

To make use of glassblowing, players must use a bucket of sand and soda ash on a furnace; this will provide them with molten glass. Using a glassblowing pipe, players can then make an array of different items, from beer glasses to unpowered orbs, with relative ease.

This would be an ideal training method for those with little capital and a lot of time if they can handle its repetitive and fairly monotonous nature.
