On July 23, 2026, Nintendo and Monolith Soft unveiled a trailer for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade for the 2017 JRPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This trailer detailed the better performance of this upgraded version of the game and showcased new features that fans can expect when they upgrade.
The Switch 2 upgrade for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will allow the game to run at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second when the console is docked and at 1080p resolution with 60 frames per second when playing the game in handheld mode.
The biggest feature being added to this version of the game is a new mode, similar to the racing mode added to Xenoblade Chronicles 1. This new mode, Merc Assault, will allow the player to play as any of the blades they send out on merc missions to fight against hordes of enemies instead of waiting multiple hours for the missions to automatically clear offscreen like in the original version of the game.
Pyra and Mytha will also be receiving new costumes after upgrading the game, allowing players to make Mythra blue if they so wish.
One of the most exciting new features being added to the game is the addition of a new rare blade from the game: Momo from the Xenosaga series. Previously, Kos-Mos and T-Elos were obtainable as Rare Blades in the game, Momo’s addition will now allow for players to have a full party of Xenosaga characters available at all times.
The Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is scheduled to release on July 30, 2026. Players who have already purchased Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be able to purchase the upgrade for $10.
