MOJHON impressed me with the Blitz 2 Controller. Its outstanding build quality and 2000Hz polling rate make it a highly responsive device for Esports and competitive play. Now, I have the Rainbow 2 Pro in hand. This Esports-level controller is also suitable for casual gaming. It is presented in a colorful package with numerous features, making it an FPS powerhouse.

What’s in the box

  • Rainbow 2 Pro Controller
  • Charging Dock
  • 2.4g Dongle
  • 4 Extra Joysticks Caps
  • 1 Alternate Dpad
  • USB Charging Cable
  • Manual
With a 1000Hz wired polling rate, the Rainbow 2 Pro can take the whole Empire by itself!

FPS Monster

On first impression, the Rainbow 2 Pro is similar to an Xbox controller, with a trapezium shape that makes it comfortable for long gaming sessions. The device features rubberized grips, ABXY buttons, Hall effect triggers, and ALPS joysticks.

Between its combination of mechanical and membrane buttons, the Rainbow 2 features the following inputs:

  • ABXY Membrane Buttons
  • Home Button
  • “+” Button
  • “-“ Button
  • Screen Capture Button
  • Mechanical D-pad
  • Left and Right Bumper Buttons
  • Left and Right Analog Triggers with Stoppers
  • 2 Mappable Bumper Buttons
  • 2 Mappable Back Buttons
  • 2 ALPS Joysticks
  • 4 Function Buttons

The triggers feature the Hall Effect function, which uses magnetic inputs instead of potentiometers that degrade over time. Now, the joysticks feature ALPS tech, which uses mechanical potentiometers to record their input signals. This could be a concern since many controllers in this price range feature Hall Effects, thus preventing controller drift. To prevent drift, the Rainbow 2 Pro features an Adaptive Calibration function. The controller will automatically sample the center point to reduce drift.

It is advertised to have a polling rate of 200Hz on the 2.4g wireless connection. I tested this and found that the max rate was 250Hz, averaging 193.84Hz for a 77.54% stability. Now, the wired connection, which features a polling rate max of 1000Hz, shows an average of 958.77Hz with 95.88% stability. This is wonderful for esports-level gameplay for FPS games, while the 2.4 GHz wireless connection is adequate for casual playing.

The Rainbow 2 Pro features a 3.5mm audio jack.

The 2.4g connection supports audio via a 3.5mm jack. I used a set of inner-ear monitors, and it sounds fantastic! You can also connect a headset and communicate that way. I wish that function were available on Blitz 2.

Like its cousin, the Blitz 2, the MOJHON Rainbow 2 Pro features a row of function buttons on the bottom of the controller. You can easily change turbo and other settings, although you can also do so with the downloadable app. Another change you can make is to alter the RGB light settings. These allow you to mix the colors on the left and right sides, giving the controller a remarkable rainbow effect—no pun intended.

Mainly designed for FPS games, the Rainbow 2 Pro also shines in other genres.

The Rainbow 2 Pro is designed with first-person shooters in mind, with its wired connection. Still, this controller is versatile enough to play different genres like platformers, survival horror, and fighting games with its circular D-pad button.

Oh, those pesky zombies…

I had a lot of fun with this controller, playing Zombieville USA 3D, Star Wars Squadrons, and Street Fighter V. It’s fantastic to have in your arsenal.

Connectivity

I tested the Rainbow 2 Pro with different devices, including:

  • Windows 10/11 PC
  • Steam Deck in Bluetooth Mode
  • Nintendo Switch
  • iOS
  • Android
  • PS5 Playing PS4 Games
Notice the BAYX labeling.

Even though you don’t have swappable buttons, if you look closer, you’ll notice that on the sides of the buttons, there’s BAYX labeling. That’s a nice touch for those who play with the Nintendo Switch. Speaking of the Switch, you can use a one-button wake-up function with this controller.

Drawbacks

There is very little to discuss regarding drawbacks, but the ALPS joysticks will be a point of contention among gamers. Many people, including me, worry about joystick drifting.

Now, MAJHON includes an Adaptive Calibration function that continuously checks the joystick’s center point, helping to avoid and minimize joystick drift. Of course, it’s too early to tell since the controller is brand new, but I suppose that will be something to test in the long run.

Another point is that the Rainbow 2 Pro has a PS mode and can connect to the PS5; however, it can only play PS4 games. I wish there were full PlayStation support at this moment.

Conclusion

Using the Rainbow 2 Pro has been a fun experience. Its feature-rich options let you use this as an esports controller, yet it is suitable as a casual controller, bringing you the best of both worlds. You have a bunch of options that cater to both groups of gamers in a pretty package that is dressed to kill.

This controller is thoroughly recommended.
