I have reviewed several budget controllers, including the Machenike G3 V2 and the Mojhon Aether Controller, both of which offer numerous high-quality features for their price point. Mojhon has a strong contender in their arsenal for the title of best budget controller: the Mojhon Choco. This controller is simply delightful and adorable, but does it have what it takes?

What’s in the box:

  • Choco Controller
  • USB-C Charging Cable
  • User Manual
  • After-Sales Card
  • Quality Certification Card

The Cute Killer

Mojhon’s Choco Controller, introduced in 2023, is a straightforward budget controller primarily designed for the Nintendo Switch and features some premium options. The Choco, which is quite cute, is available in four pastel colors: blue, green, gray, and pink. Its front resembles an Xbox controller, but with a BAYX button layout.

Like the Nintendo Pro Wireless Controller, the Choco features motion controls for games such as Splatoon 3 and Super Mario Odyssey. Another great feature is the inclusion of NFC reader support. This controller can read Amiibo figures to provide add-ons for compatible games.

Using the Choco was fun with games like Mario Kart 8.

You can connect the Choco to your console or PC via Bluetooth or a wired connection.  However, the connection quality may not be exceptional, primarily comparable to that of a Nintendo Joy-Con. The Choco features a wireless connection at 125Hz, with an average polling rate of 74.45Hz, resulting in a stability of 59.56%.

On a different note, a wired connection shows a maximum polling rate of 250Hz, with an average of 248.82Hz, demonstrating 99.53% stability.

These figures may not be ideal for competitive gaming, where polling rates of 1000 Hz or higher reign supreme. However, for casual gaming or a relaxing and enjoyable session of play, the Choco is an excellent choice.

The Mojhon’s Choco features a one-button wake-up function for the Nintendo Switch. That’s correct; you can wake the Switch with a press of the Home button on the Choco. That’s an excellent feature right there.

The BAYX buttons and D-Pad are membrane-based.

Regarding buttons, the Choco features two back buttons, M1 and M2, which can be used to create macros of up to 128 steps using the Mojhon Mobile App. Here is the layout of the buttons:

  • BAYX Buttons
  • Home Button
  • (+) Start Button
  • (-) Select button
  • Screenshot Capture Button
  • D-Pad
  • Function Button
  • M1 and M2 Back Buttons
  • Left and Right Bumpers
  • Left and Right Digital Triggers
  • Left and Right Joystick Buttons

The Choco is versatile enough to be used in many game genres, such as puzzle games…

The D-Pad and BAYX buttons are membrane-based and provide a pleasant tactile experience without feeling too mushy. The triggers are digital, similar to those found in the Nintendo Wireless Pro Controller. They may work well for arcade-style racers, but I wouldn’t recommend them for a racing sim.

Connectivity

The Choco is designed to connect with the following devices:

  • Nintendo Switch
  • Win 10 & 11
  • Android
  • iOS

I also tested and confirmed that you can use the Choco with both the Steam Deck and Apple TV.

Drawbacks

Regarding potential drawbacks, it all hinges on your expectations. If you’re envisioning something similar to the Mojhon Blitz 2, then you’re mistaken. This controller is tailored for the more casual player who enjoys quality time with friends or family and seeks an extraordinary session of Splatoon or Mario Bros. The polling rate is akin to that of the Nintendo Joy-Cons, rather than an esports-class controller.

Is this controller perfect? I wouldn’t say it is, but I don’t see any issues that would be a significant drawback. I do wish it supported a 2.4g connection, but that’s a bit of nitpicking. For what it is, it’s a reasonable alternative to the pricier Nintendo Wireless Pro Controller, which retails for $69.99, and the Choco includes mappable back buttons.

…to awesome beat ’em up games!

Conclusion

The Mojhon Choco Controller is an excellent alternative to many other Switch Controllers, including the Nintendo Wireless Pro Controller. It is versatile, offering features such as an NFC reader, mappable back buttons, and connectivity to multiple devices, making it an excellent choice for fun games. While I don’t see you using this for a serious esports tournament, if you want a fantastic controller for casual gaming or spending time with friends and family, then the Mojhon Choco is an absolute winner.

The Choco is currently available for $29.99 using the discount code KSKXUB3G at Amazon
