The ending that the player gets to experience completely depends on their decisions and actions throughout the game. Also, what’s even more compelling is that achieving specific ending results in a totally different storyline. Now, this is where a question arises – which one of them is exactly the official ending? In this guide, we will help you with this very question, so read along as we go through each ending itself and find out which one of them is the true Hollow Knight canon ending.

Every Ending in Hollow Knight

The Hollow Knight Ending

The ending that most of the new players experience for the first time is The Hollow Knight ending. To obtain this ending defeat the three dreamers and enter the temple of the black egg. After that, defeat the Hollow Knight without the Void Heart to complete the story.

Sealed Siblings Ending

To experience the sealed siblings ending, defeat the three dreamers and enter the temple of the black egg. Now, defeat the Hollow Knight with the Void Heart to complete the story.

Dream No More Ending

Once again, defeat the three dreamers and enter the temple of the black egg. Now, defeat the Hollow Knight with the Void Heart. However, in this case, while defeating the Hollow Knight. you will have to use the Awakened Dream Nail. Last but not least, defeat the dream version of radiance to complete the story.

Embrace The Void Ending

This ending is relatively different and at the same time quite difficult to obtain than the rest of the endings. Unlike other endings, embrace The Void ending takes place in the Pantheon of Hallownest. To obtain this ending, defeat every Pantheon in Hollow Knight and continue opening the Pantheon of Hallownest. After that, defeat the absolute radiance to complete the story.

Delicate Flower Ending

Delicate Flower ending takes place in the Pantheon of Hallownest. To obtain this ending, transport the delicate flower (could be that Grey Mourner gave to you) to Godseeker. Now, defeat every Pantheon in Hollow Knight and continue opening the Pantheon of Hallownest. After that, defeat the absolute radiance to complete the story.

Passing of The Age – Extra Ending

For this one, you will have to find the Mister Mushroom in seven locations while equipped with a Spore Shroom charm. Here are all the exact locations (in the right order) where you can locate Mister Mushroom:

Fungal Wastes

Kingdom’s Edge

Deepnest

Howling Cliffs

Ancient Basin

Queen’s Gardens

King’s Pass

Once you have spoken to Mister Mushroom at all seven locations, you can now complete any other ending to achieve this ending on the side.

Hollow Knight Canon Ending

In a Q&A session on Reddit that was conducted about 6 years ago, the developers (Team Cherry) were asked a question – Is any 1 ending more canon than the others? Upon this Ari from Team Cherry responded “All endings are equally canon. We’re not into ‘True Endings.’ You choose the path yourself.”

From this, it became quite evident that all of the endings can be considered canon. However, Mister Mushroom ending is an exception, because of the following statement of Ari from Team Cherry: “Saying that, Mr Mushroom likely departs whether or not you see him off.” This ending is frequently viewed as more of a pleasant easter egg rather than as a critical component of the game’s story.

Now, even though according to Team Cherry “All endings are equally canon” – to many fans the Sealed Siblings ending seems the be more befitting of the narrative that Hollow Knight presented.

The Knight taking the role of a new vessel to seal the Radiance is something that signifies the completion of the main story arc. So those fans claiming the sealed siblings to be the main or canonical ending do seem to have a valid point.
