On the evening of March 8, 2024, the servers for Epic Game’s massive Battle Royale game Fortnite went down for planned maintenance as the game prepared to transition into Chapter 5 Season 2 “Myths and Mortals”. Unfortunately for eager gamers, they would not be able to play the game in the morning as expected.
As gamers arose from their beds, they were unable to log into the game and were instead met with long queues and server connection issues after installing a large update for the game. It would seem the scheduled maintenance was now moving into an unscheduled maintenance.
At 9:14 AM EST, the official Fortnite Status Twitter account tweeted out a statement. In this post it was explained that due to unforeseen issues, the game’s maintenance would need to extend for an extra eight hours. With the new expected end time being around 4 PM EST. The full statement can be read below.
These unexpected server issues come right off the heel of Chapter 5’s second season starting. This season of Fortnite has been met with incredible praise for its Greek God themed skins and the official reveal of an Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration!
The collaboration skin for this season’s Battle Pass will be that of Korra from the The Last Airbender sequel series The Legend of Korra. Owners of the Battle Pass will be able to complete two pages of quests to unlock this Avatar on April 2, 2024.
Unfortunately until this sudden maintenance ends, players will be unable to grind levels for any of the others skins. Updates on this server outage are expected to be reported by Epic Game’s official Fortnite Status account over the next few hours.
Fortnite is currently available to download on Android, IOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
