The April 9, 2024 patch for Fortnite may be one of the biggest in the game’s history as within a few hours of the game being launched players have learned about many details that will completely change the game going forward.
Shop Changes
Upon logging into the game, players this morning were immediately able to see that their Fortnite skins no longer had listed rarities in either the shop or their lockers. This system of rarity, which scaled in five tiers from common to legendary, had been in place since the game’s inception and has now seemed to vanish overnight.

Epic Games immediately issued a statement about this change, that reads as follows:
“The Shop has evolved significantly to support multiple types of cosmetics and items across games, so we’re retiring the old Battle Royale-inspired system of colors and tags for cosmetic quality. Different Series of cosmetics — such as the Icon Series or Gaming Legends Series — will still be there to help you find your favorite stuff!”
As stated above, from now on all items will be the same rarity. This change has upset all players who have embraced a feeling of superiority over having better items than new and younger players.
In addition to this, a new change to the Fortnite item shop will be arriving in May 2024. Starting next month, each individual item in the Fortnite shop will feature a timer showing how long players have to purchase it before it vanishes. This is likely to prevent confusion during situations where Anakin Skywalker is in the shop for a single day while Omni-Man is around for a week.
Fortnite to add Proximity Chat
Shop Changes aren’t the only change Fortnite players can expect in the coming months, as it has been discovered that Proximity Chat (a voice chat setting previously only available in the limited-time Imposters mode) will soon be coming to more parts of the game!
Proximity Chat is a type of voice chat that allows players to only hear each other if they are at a close distance from each other. Which will inevitably lead to some chaotic firefights when added to the game in the future.
Fortnite Coachella Event
Locker and voice chat changes aren’t the only things players can expect from this patch, as Fortnite Festival players can expect an amazing April as the game appears to be going all out with their Coachella celebration.
Data miners have also taken a look around and have discovered many changes that will be coming to Fortnite Festival to celebrate this musical experience.
the Fortnite Festival stage shall be updated to be Coachella-themed, offering a much-needed visual change to the game mode! In addition to this, several Coachella-themed instruments will be added to the shop in the coming days.

Data miners have also discovered that within the shop API there will be a Coachella section to the shop. This section will have 9 entire rows. Even assuming that some of that will be dedicated to the instruments, that still leaves a lot of room for plenty of songs to be added as well!
Upcoming Fortnite Skins and Cosmetics
As with every Fortnite patch, plenty of currently unreleased skins and cosmetics have already been discovered in the files, many of them related to the upcoming Avatar; The Last Airbender event.
Cosmetics included in the Avatar event include:
- Appa Glider
- Aang Sphere glide emote
- My Cabbages emote
- Aang-styled car and boost decal for Rocket Racing
- Four Avatar-themed guitars for Fortnite Festival
Avatar cosmetics aren’t the only thing players can expect from the game this month, as four Fortnite original skins have been datamined by the leaker iFireMonkey and can be seen in the images below.

With all of these new cosmetic and gameplay changes as well as two events close on the horizon, it’s becoming clear that April will be a huge month for Fortnite and its players.
Fortnite is currently available to download on Android, IOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
