At 7:00 EST on March 14, 2024, video game publisher Capcom released an 8 minute video presentation on Dragon’s Dogma 2 hosted by famed British actor Ian McShane!
At the start of this 8 minute presentation, Ian McShane begins by going over the origin of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s conflict and how an Arisen is chosen once a generation to fight against the cruel dragon who stole their heart.
After going over the basic premise of the game, the narration moves on to explaining the two nations the game takes place in and how the Arisen is an outsider in a land of beasts. We also get to see glimpses of how the player will navigate this world by both normal means (gondolas) and magical means (casting fire).
After going over the game’s kingdoms, the trailer begins to go over the various monsters that the player will encounter during their adventure. From towering golems to skeletons rising from the ground in the dead of night. One has to wonder if this section of the trailer was created just to get McShane to list monster names with his voice.
Hearing Ian McShane talk about game mechanics such as summoning Pawns to fight against you in battle and the game’s various classes feels like a surreal dream.
As gaming further approaches mainstream popularity we are likely to see more situations like this and the Tekken 8 trailer which featured Brian Cox or the Persona 3 trailer featuring Aidan Gallagher.
One can only hope that Japanese companies continue to reach out to actors with the charismatic level of Ian McShane and the above examples. The full Dragon’s Dogma 2 presentation can be watched in the link below.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is expected to be released on March 22, 2024. The game is currently available for pre-order on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC via Steam. Those who pre-order the game will receive some extra equipment known as the Superior Weapons Quartet and a Ring of Assurance.
