There are many cool characters in Fire Emblem Engage that you can only recruit through battles. Though sometimes it is easy to realize who you can recruit, you might need some help here and there with some characters. The first character in Fire Emblem Engage that you will have the ability to recruit, and also miss out on, is Jean. Here is how you can recruit Jean in Fire Emblem Engage.
How to Recruit Jean in Fire Emblem Engage
You will be able to recruit Jean after finishing chapter 5, Retaking the Castle. Once you finish the chapter and save Eve and her kingdom, you will have the ability to do a side quest to the southeast.

Head over there and start the Budding Talent paralogue. In this quest, you will see Jean fighting alongside his father, defending the wounded.
To recruit Jean during this battle, you will have to approach him with Alear (your character) and use a turn to talk to him. No other character can talk to recruit him, so make sure to use Alear.

Once the battle is done, you will assist in a conversation between Alear, Jean, and his parents, where Jean tells them that he is going to help you save the world.
Is Jean useful?
Jean is a Martial Monk / Qi Adept, the same as Framme, but his special skill, Expertise, allows his stats to grow faster than for any other character.
You can easily start using either Framme and Jean together, or just keep the one you prefer. In many ways, Jean can be a much better healer than Framme since he will be able to take more hits.
Players can easily befriend Jean once they get him using some of the gifts at the Flea Market. If you want to properly use Jean in Fire Emblem Engage, you will also have to see his growth rates and prepare accordingly.
