Over the past week, Insomniac Games has been the victim of a major data breach that has revealed info about their business model, upcoming games, and most dangerously employee information to the internet.

The Insomniac data breach has already begun to go down in history as one of the most devastating in gaming history. Many call it a look behind the curtain of AAA game development, as the budget and sales of big name titles like Spider-Man 2 have been revealed.

Among the information online have been several development videos and source code for their upcoming title based on the Marvel comic character Wolverine. While some gamers have tried to respect the privacy of Insomniac and their employees, others have dived head-first into this info.

Some gamers have chosen to fly too close to the sun and began to both download and upload an experimental PC alpha build of Insomniac’s Wolverine game. This action seems to have sprung internet service providers into action.

As reported by the Twitter user PC_Focus, internet service providers such as Xfinity have begun to file DMCA notices to users of their service who have been detected uploading and downloading the source code of Insomniac’s Wolverine.

A DMCA takedown notice from a Comcast internet service provider, to which Xfinity belongs, can result in an up to 14-day termination of your internet service. Repeated offenses of this crime can result in the complete termination of your internet service subscription.

With the threat of DMCAs in the air, many who would have downloaded this experimental PC build of Wolverine have been dissuaded from attempting. Hopefully keep these same people away from more illegal parts of the Insomniac data breach.

How much effect this data breach will have on Insomniac, their employees, and the upcoming Wolverine title has yet to be seen. Many fear that the leak of source code will result in the game being canceled or rushed out quickly.

Insomniac has currently made no comments about the data breach or the future of their upcoming Wolverine title.
