What Is the Guardian in BG3?
The first time you stumble into the Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3 is right after creating your character. You will suddenly come up onto a screen where you can choose what your Guardian looks like.
In the past, this “Guardian” was known as “your heart’s desire,” which helped players a bit better when deciding what this Guardian looks like. This character you get to create at the start of the game will only appear in your dreams in the first chapters.
The reason you get to choose how your Guardian looks is because they should be able to “influence” you. The idea was relatively easy to spot when they were called “your heart’s desire,” so the developers changed it since many players might also not be interested in romance with the being.
That said, make sure that you create a Guardian that you personally feel will match with your character, and don’t worry too much about it. The Guardian in BG3 can’t join you as a companion, hence why you can’t choose their class and skills.
