As you travel around the “beautiful” Riverside Teahouse area, you might notice that things around here aren’t what they seem. By this point, everyone must have figured out that there is something wrong with Auntie Ethel and her obsession with pie. Still, she offers the player a way out, an easy way to get rid of the Illithid Tadpole deep in your eye. All she asks for in return is an eye. Well, even though most of us realize there is something suspicious here, we still have to question whether we should give or not Auntie Ethel our eye in Baldur’s Gate 3. Even if she doesn’t fix us, is there some kind of buff or debuff we gain from this that will affect us long term? Here is the answer to all of these questions.

What Happens If You Give Auntie Ethel Your Eye in BG3 – Paid the Price Debuff
As you enter her “beautiful” Riverside Teahouse, you will notice Auntie Ethel forcing Mayrina to eat some pie. If you don’t make any rude or hostile moves, Auntie Ethel will offer to fix your Illithid Tadpole problem, in exchange for an eye.
Here is exactly what happens if you give Auntie Ethel your eye in BG3:
- She removes your eye and gives you a new, green one, that will give you the Paid the Price debuff.
- She won’t remove the Illithid Tadpole, saying that it is too dangerous for her.
- She gives you Auntie Ethel’s Charm.
The Paid the Price debuff will increase your Intimidation by 1 but it will give you a Disadvantage on Perception checks and attacks against Hags. The Disadvantage on Perception checks is horrible since you will often need to find secrets and see hidden items.
Auntie Ethel’s Charm is a consumable item that will give you Advantage on all Ability checks and a couple of other bonuses until you Long Rest. Once you do, the bonuses will disappear.
Considering everything you “gain” from this deal, you should not give Auntie Ethel your eye. If anything, you should convince her to give you an Ability point after you defeat her in the upcoming battle to save Mayrina.
And that is all you need to know about what happens if you give your eye to Auntie Ethel in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out other interesting BG3 guides and articles:
