One of the first bosses that most players will face in Baldur’s Gate 3 if they like exploring weird holes in the ground, is the Phase Spider Matriarch. If you’ve already explored the cave a bit, you would have already fought at least two Phase Spiders and have probably realized that this battle will be extremely hard. Fighting this boss head-on can be a huge mistake, considering that you probably have around level 3 or 4 here. So, here is exactly how you can defeat the Phase Spider Matriarch boss in Baldur’s Gate 3, along with what loot she gives, and her exact location.

Phase Spider Matriarch Boss Location in Baldur’s Gate 3
The location where you can find the Phase Spider Matriarch boss in BG3 is inside the Whispering Depths. This is a cave under the Blighted Village that you can access either through the Well or through the Shabby Wooden Doors, both shown in the image below on the map.
The Well will take you directly inside the dangerous parts of the cave, while the Shabby Wooden Doors will take you to a relatively safe space where you can also loot Infernal Iron for Karlach.
To open the Shabby Wooden Doors, you will need to get the Old Key, which is located on the floor above inside the building. You can also just burn the webs there and jump down into the Whispering Depths, without picking up the key.
The Phase Spider Matriarch is located at the end of this cave, at the westernmost point.
How to Defeat the Phase Spider Matriarch Boss in BG3
The Phase Spider Matriarch will be surrounded by a lot of small spider eggs, which she can hatch to create a lot of small Phase Spiders to attack you, and two grown Phase Spiders.
The best strategy to defeat the Phase Spider Matriarch boss in BG3 is to destroy the Spiderweb bridges all over the area when she stands on them. When she falls, she takes 34 HP damage, out of her total 125 on Balanced Difficulty.
There are exactly four Spiderweb bridges in this boss battle area, which means that, if you can make her fall four times, you can win the battle without actually getting hit once by her. To do this, you will need a character with really good Stealth, preferably the Fire Bolt cantrip, and the Spiderstep Boots.
You can pick up the Spiderstep Boots before facing the Matriarch, in the creepy laboratory in the cave. These will make sure that your character never gets Enwebbed by the Spiderwebs.
The Matriarch will keep walking over one of the Spiderweb bridges. What you need to do is send the chosen companion to stand on the southeastern bridge next to her and shoot the bridge she is standing on, to make her fall.
When you destroy a bridge, she will fall, take 34 damage, and get Prone. This gives you time to move to the next bridge since she will teleport exactly where you were when you shot down her bridge.
If you move to the next bridge, you can shoot her down again when she teleoports on the second bridge. Rinse and repeat until you defeat her.
Luckily, if she catches you after you drop her three times, you can just finish her off with normal attacks, since she only has around 20 HP left.
The rest of your party should be out of combat, allowing them to quickly come in and finish the battle.
Cheesy Way to Win the Fight
The easiest way to defeat the Phase Spider Matriarch in BG3 would be to push her into the Chasm in the middle of the battlefield. You will get an instant win and get all of the experience without any trouble.
Using Wyll’s Eldritch Blast combined with the Repelling Blast feature you can get at level 3 will instantly push her 4.5 meters behind, allowing you to get an easy win.
However, some players might be upset since this would mean that they lost out on the loot that this boss gives. Well, if you have a Scroll or a Potion for Feather Fall, you can jump right into the Chasm and loot the body of the Phase Spider Matriarch down in the Underdark.
