Baldur’s Gate 3: Choose Glut or Spaw? – Rewards

Baldur's Gate 3: Glut or Spaw

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game with rich and interesting stories, all of them able to captivate players and immerse them in the world of Faerûn. One of these stories is the events that take place in the Myconid Colony in the Underdark. It is here that you have to make a choice in Baldur’s Gate 3: Glut or Spaw? The colony is run by Sovereign Spaw, who is their leader. You’ll be asked by this fungal creature to help them fight back against the Duergar. However, all is not as it seems at this colony. There is another Sovereign, and he’ll make you a proposal you may not want to accept. In this article, we’ll discuss this choice and help you choose the option that will work best for your experience.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Should You Choose Glut or Spaw?

If there is one thing that BG3 does really well, it’s making players think hard about the choices they make. Every decision has the possibility of coming back to either bite you in the behind or make you glad you did what you did.

Larian Studios made a big deal out of how the choices players make matter in BG3, and the decision between Sovereign Spaw or Sovereign Glut is no exception.

It can be tricky to know which one to choose because of how Larian made characters you can feel bad for even if they’re not ‘good’.

While Spaw may seem like the nicer of the two fungi, Glut has a sad backstory. Those who feel bad for Glut may choose to help him instead, and give him the chance to build a new colony for himself.

Naturally, there are consequences to this decision, so making a hasty choice isn’t recommended. Whether you choose Glut or Spaw will significantly affect the Myconid Colony in BG3.

Choosing Spaw in BG3

If you decide to ignore Glut’s request and support Spaw, you choose the option that can be considered as the ‘good’ one. When you make this choice, you’ll have to take out Glut so he can’t harm the colony. The fungal creatures will go on with their lives as before, safer after you’ve taken care of the Duergar.

Spaw will give you access to some nice loot in a secret area once you’ve finished his quest. There is a Drow body with some goodies too. Also, using the ‘Speak With Dead’ spell, you can gain information about the Adamantine Forge from the Drow (Xargrim).

Here are the rewards for siding with Spaw:

  • Scroll of Hold Person
  • Scroll of Blur
  • Rogue’s Morsel
  • Hastening Spores
  • Myconid Flesh
  • Nightlight Fond
  • Continued access to the happy colony (trade with Blurg and Derryth)
  • Easy opportunity to speak with Xargrim’s body

Choosing Glut in BG3

This is seen as the ‘evil’ option and if you’re playing a less-than-good playthrough, you’ll likely end up siding with Glut. You’ll have to kill Spaw so Glut can take over. Additionally, you must kill the rest of the colony so Glut can build his own to replace them.

This decision will lead to the entire Myconid presence being wiped out in the area, safe for Glut. If you have Astarion in your party and want to impress him, this decision will have his approval.

Here are the rewards for siding with Glut:

  • Winter’s Clutches (Gloves)
  • Featherlight Boots
  • Ring of Fire
  • Scroll of Blur
  • Scroll of Hold Person
  • Bonecap
  • Hastening Spores
  • Lump of Myconid Flesh
  • Nightlight Frond
  • Poison Spore
  • Swarming Toadstool

Note that if you decide to choose Glut’s side, you will miss out on Shadow of Menzoberranzan and Icy Metal, since you can’t finish the Defeat the Duergar Intruders quest Spaw gives you.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Glut or Spaw: Which is The Better Option?

For most players, the obvious choice is Spaw. There are simply more advantages and unless you want to feel evil, siding with Spaw will make you feel better. Remember, if you side with Glut, you’re responsible for the extinction of a Myconid colony, which makes you as bad as the Duergar, if not worse!

And that is all you need to know about who to side with between Glut or Spaw in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out other interesting BG3 guides and articles:
