European game studio Anima Project has just launched a Kickstarter for the third game in their cult classic role-playing game franchise Anima Beyond Fantasy. This new entry in the Anima franchise, Anime: Song from the Abyss, is not currently funded, with a Kickstarter campaign and concept trailer being released to the public to request funds from the dedicated fanbase.
On the Kickstarter page, we can see an outline of how Anima: Song From the Abyss will play, its story and character designs, as well as what games have inspired this project. The Anima franchise has always prided itself on bringing a Western edge to Japanese role-playing games and that trend shall continue.
Unlike previous entries which had simple and rudimentary combat, Anima: Song From the Abyss will have combat inspired by Japanese action games Nier Automata and Devil May Cry. With features such as switching movesets mid-combo and the ability to stagger enemies.
While the combat will be inspired by Japanese action games, the world will be influenced by Western RPG franchises such as The Witcher as the game will feature a non-linear open world filled with in-depth sidequests for the player to participate in.
Anima: Song from the Abyss will feature a full skill tree, an equippable magic system known as Runes, and consumable items that will allow the player to experiment during combat to find the most efficient way to take down foes.
The game will also feature two playable characters, Soren and Noein, with their own personalities and combat mechanics. The player will be given the ability to switch between these two characters at any point during their quest.
The Kickstarter for Anima: Song of Memories has a goal of $64,000 in United States currency. While that may be a hefty goal for a niche game like this, the dedicated Anima fanbase was able to reach $10,000 of that goal within minutes after the Kickstarter’s launch.
Anima: Song From the Abyss is planned to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam in the future. The Kickstarter page also mentions the possibility of a Nintendo Switch port but notes that it is not currently being developed for Nintendo’s platform.
