On July 8, 2024, Blizzard Entertainment released a trailer for its upcoming Overwatch 2 x Transformers collaboration event. This trailer was a grand, animated spectacle that is a sight to behold to both Transformers Fans and Overwatch alike.
Alongside this trailer, Blizzard has also confirmed which Autobots and Decepticons will be appearing in the game as skins for Overwatch 2’s heroes. The upcoming skins are are follows
- Optimus Prime – Reinhardt
- Bumblebee – Bastion
- Arcee – Illari
- Megatron – Ramattra
Each Transformer in the trailer features a new design that, while recognizable, are clearly altered to fit the world of Overwatch. Seeing the iconic Transformers designs in a new style has always been one of the biggest joys for fans of the property.
While the collaboration clearly favors the Autobots more than the Decepticons, that is to be expected as collaboration events for modern shooters typically add only around four skins.
All four of these skins will be available to purchase in the Overwatch 2 store on July 9, 2024. There is currently no word on each skin’s price and if they will be available in a bundle. Though the latter can be assumed based on Overwatch 2’s previous history with collaboration skins.
While many people are excited for the upcoming Transformers collaboration, there is also a plentiful number of people worried about Blizzard and how much the publisher will be charging for these skins. As in recent history the company has charged increasingly higher prices for collaboration skins and even priced a skin for the same price as an entirely new game.
Until these skins are properly released tomorrow, one can only remain hopeful that Blizzard’s business practices don’t nickel and dime the loyal Transformers fanbase for all they’re worth.
