Baldur’s Gate 3 prides itself on being a great game for roleplaying without too many restrictions. And it delivers—there are endless opportunities to make your in-game experience unique and fun. So it’s no wonder players started wondering how far they can push their roleplay. There are vampires in the game, and they’re pretty cool. Naturally, people would want to experience that without playing as Astarion, an Origin character. So, in Baldur’s Gate 3, can you become a vampire? Join us as we discuss exactly this question.
Can You Become a Vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Yup, it’s true. You can, towards the later stage of the game, become a Vampire yourself and bite people in BG3. However, getting to this point requires making specific choices and helping Astarion in his fight against his master, Cazador.
Astarion the Vampire Spawn
If you want to become a Vampire in BG3, you’ll need to keep Astarion alive and happy. You’ll have to help him finish his story quest. Since Astarion is such an interesting character, it will be easy to be tempted to follow him down his dark path. Of course, in the end, it’s up to you, but if you’re aiming to have your own fangs, you’ll have to follow that path.
Astarion isn’t a full vampire; he’s the Spawn (slave) of a real Vampire, Cazador Szarr. He can’t turn you into a Vampire, but if you follow the right path, he will be able to. This ‘right path’ involves finishing Astarion’s companion quest, ‘The Pale Elf’.
You’ll have to assist Astarion in defeating his former master and then finish the evil ritual the Vampire started. Once this ritual is completed (at a very high price), Astarion will be able to turn you into a Vampire. You won’t be as powerful as Astarion, but you will have the ability to bite other creatures during battle.
Keep in mind you’ll have to reach a good relationship with Astarion to ensure that he offers you this opportunity.
You Can Be a Vampire for a Day in BG3
If you’re just curious about being a vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3 but don’t want to finish Astarion’s quest, there’s still a way to experience it a little bit. To do this, you’ll need to take on Auntie Ethel, a hag, in her teahouse.
There is another quest you can finish here, and once you’ve defeated the hag, you can loot her place. You’ll find many interesting and odd Potions, and one of them will let you kind of become a Vampire for a while.
You can drink A Mother’s Loathing, one of Ethel’s concoctions. This Potion will give you the same function as the Vampiric Bite. You won’t enjoy the healing benefit of an actual bite, but you’ll get to use your temporary fangs. The Potion’s effect will last until your next Long Rest.
