Marvel Rivals, the popular free-to-play hero shooter, is set to launch its first full season on tomorrow, January 10. Dubbed “Eternal Night Falls,” Season 1 brings a host of new content and exciting changes to the game, promising to keep players engaged for the next three months.
New Heroes Join the Fray
The headline addition for Season 1 is the introduction of the Fantastic Four to the game’s ever-expanding roster. Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman will be available at the season’s start, with Human Torch and The Thing joining later in the season (Feb 21). Each hero brings their unique abilities to the battlefield:
- Mr. Fantastic (Duelist): Uses his elastic abilities to strike from a distance and deflect attacks.
- Invisible Woman (Strategist): Deploys shields, turns invisible, and manipulates enemy positions.
- Human Torch (Duelist)
- The Thing (Vanguard)
New Maps and Game Mode
Season 1 introduces three new maps set in New York City’s Empire of Eternal Night:
- Sanctum Sanctorum
- Midtown (available in the first half of the season)
- Central Park (coming in the second half)
A new game mode called “Doom Match” will debut this season. In this mode, 8 to 12 players battle on a single map, each belonging to a different faction. Players earn points by defeating enemies, with the top 50% of players declared winners at the end of the match.
Seasonal Events and Battle Pass
The “Midnight Features” seasonal event allows players to complete activities for limited-time rewards, including exclusive galleries, costumes, sprays, and more. A new Battle Pass will be available, featuring ten Eternal Nightfalls-themed skins and related accessories.
Balance Changes
NetEase is implementing a wide range of balance changes to heroes across all roles. Some notable adjustments include:
- Nerfs to popular damage dealers like Hawkeye and Hela
- Buffs to underperforming heroes such as Black Widow and Storm
- Adjustments to Vanguards like Venom, Thor, and Captain America
- Changes to support heroes, with buffs to Jeff the Land Shark and Rocket Raccoon
Story and Setting
Season 1’s narrative revolves around Dracula’s siege of New York City. With Doctor Strange trapped in the Entangled Astral Plane, Dracula seizes the opportunity to use the power of Chronovium to stop the moon, plunging the city into eternal night. Heroes must band together to construct a Timestream Reintegration Device and end this cross-dimensional crisis.
