The Past Never Dies chapter of 007: First Light is quite different from the ones that came before it, as at the start of the chapter the player will be sent to a black market and told to use Bond’s skills to quickly make 100,000 dollars via any means they see fit. With that kind of open design, it should also come as no surprise that this chapter has a lot of optional challenges for the player to complete. This will take a long time, but it is worth the effort as doing these challenges will unlock the Mauritania for use in the game’s Tactical Simulation mode. If you wish to acquire this outfit, then please feel free to follow this walkthrough for every The Past Never Dies challenge in 007: First Light

Fall Guy

During the Black Market checkpoint, make your way to the arena and eavesdrop on a conversation to learn that they need a fighter for the ring. Talk to the man booking the fight and you’ll be put on a short questline where you need to prove your skills against a man named Omar. When fighting Omar, walk near the ledge of the roof you’re fighting on and either throw him off or punch him in a way where he falls off the roof to complete this challenge.

Bottled It!

This is another challenge related to the pit fight. When you enter the arena, there will be several boxes with bottles on them. Make sure you throw these bottles at all four opponents you fight for this challenge.

NOTE: If you die mid-way through this segment the progress for bottle throwing will not be saved, you will need to restart

Hammer Time

This is the last challenge related to the pit fight, just win against all four opponents to earn your prize money for this one.

Silent Line

At the east side of the black market you’ll be able to eavesdrop on some art thieves. In order to complete this challenge as well as several others, we’ll need to sneak into their hideout without knocking anyone out. The easiest way to do this is of course via a stealth run so here’s a step-by-step guide on what to do!

1. When first sneaking into the hideout, shoot this guard with your phone dart (This doesn’t count as knocking him out) and walk right past him and onto the box on his left. You can then use this box to climb into the nearby window.

2. Immediately enter the door on your right, go down the stairs, and vault over the box here to get to the other side of the room.

3. Avoid the guards in this room and grab the Soldier disguise on the table. While wearing this, no enemies in the area will attack Bond. Simply walk to your objective and then walk out of the area now.

With the burner phone obtained, exit the area to complete this challenge

Soldier Boy

This challenge requires the player to find and wear the soldier disguise in the Scorpius Hideout. I detailed where this disguise is located in the above walkthrough for the Silent Line challenge.

Art Lover

Once you’ve got the Burner Phone, make your way to where the Art Deal is going down. There will be a guard blocking your way, so we’ll need to find a way around him. You can sneak past him via talking to the nearby grenade salesman, asking for an item, and then sneaking through the back entrance when he turns his back.

There will then be a short shootout with some Scorpius Members, after they are defeated you will get your money and complete the challenge.

Sightseeing

One of the methods for making money during the Black Market checkpoint can be found midway through the market. Here, you can eavesdrop on a crypto dork and learn he has a lot of ill-gotten money, let’s rob him. After eavesdropping on him, use your watch to begin hack his phone. We’ll need to stay close to him while we do, so follow him around.

Midway through following him, the man will walk into a booth that we cannot enter without trespassing. To enter this booth yourself, hack the nearby fan with your watch and we’ll be able to sneak by the guard and finish hacking his phone. Next, we’ll need to steal the actual crypto wallet.

Make your way to the west side of the black market and you’ll find a woman arguing about not wanting to pay for the coffee she just drank. This is the crypto dork’s partner. In order to steal the wallet from her, we’ll need to use a gadget on the nearby barrel to distract her and pickpocket her.

Now that the easy part is done, it’s time for the part of this challenge that is actually a challenge: Sneaking to the nearby cell tower without being seen. You’ll be give a quest marker to where you’ll need to go next, follow it and prepare to sneak.

WARNING: Do NOT select “Reload Checkpoint” if you are spotted, as this will send you back to before you followed the man with the phone. Simply let the enemies kill you and you will respawn at the start of the stealth section instead.

Because there is a second challenge related to getting through this Apartment Complex without hurting any enemies, I shall now detail a method for getting through this area completely unseen.

1. As soon as you enter the Apartment Complex, climb the ladder to your left

2. On the balcony this ladder leads to, sneak all the way over to the other side and use your watch on the radio to lure the enemy here away from you. He won’t see you if you’re in the corner.

3. While up here, you can climb the side of the room in order to sneak past the enemies below you and reach the stairs to the second floor

4. This next part confuses me. While you can activate the radio and hack the nearby TV to draw all the enemies’ attention in different directions away from the next set of stairs you need to climb, I find this to be inconsistent at best. I would recommend bluffing your way out of this one.

5. Climb up the stairs to the third floor and go directly forward via climbing the side of the building.

6. Make your way all the way to the end of the room and hide to the right of the box until the man guarding the exit door is isolated. Once he is, shoot him with your dart phone (This doesn’t count as harming him). While he’s staggering around sick, you can walk right past him and through the door. From here, it’s a straight path to the cell tower and two cleared challenges.

Secure Transaction

This challenge will automatically clear while you go through the Sightseeing one, just follow the walkthrough I made in the previous section

Shoot ‘Em Up

Another method of making money in this chapter is to show your skills at the shooting gallery on the west side of the market. There will be ten targets to shoot, and they aren’t exactly difficult to hit. Just make sure you reload your gun in-between targets before the end.

Cupped

Talk to the woman at the desk in the center of the market to learn about how a precious stone of hers got stolen by a con-man running a cup game. Once you’ve agreed to help her get it back, search for the ball game at a nearby stall and agree to play (You’ll need $3,000 dollars before you do).

While you may be tempted to play fair and guess which cup has the jewel underneath it the legitimate way, Bond is more then capable of cheating. After the cups have been moved, instead of guessing hold down the L1 button of your controller to activate a Q-Scan and you’ll be able to see the jewel underneath the correct cup.

Guessing correctly will reward you with the jewel, take it back to the woman for your reward and to clear this challenge.

Show Me The Money

To complete this challenge, we’ll need to earn $140,000 dollars in the market. There’s an issue though, reaching $100,000 dollars will automatically progress the plot and prevent you from earning any extra money. So what do we do? Well, we’ll need to get as close to $100,000 dollars as we can and then get a big payday in order to hit $140,000.

So how do we do this? Simple. The Pit Fight questline will reward us with $60,000 dollars, so do that one first. Next, complete the Cupped challenge to earn an extra $30,000. This will bring us to $80,000 dollars. In order to get the last bit of money we need, let’s either the Scorpius deal to make an extra $52,000 dollars and bring us to to $140,000. If you think you need an extra few thousand dollars to reach it, pickpocket someone in the market before doing The Scorpius Deal.

Tech Support

After paying the guards $100,000 dollars, walk up the stairs like intended but instead of immediately heading into the auction, talk to the DJ by the door. His music isn’t working and he needs your help. Simply follow the yellow cords to the speaker and generator to quickly fix them for him

Easy Does It

For this next challenge, we’ll need to reach the crane without knocking out any enemies. This is the hardest stealth section so far, so here’s a step by step guide on how to get there without killing anyone.

1. At the start of the section, immediately turn left and jump over the pit. From here, climb across a rail and wait until these two pirates finish their conversation before jumping down.

2. Head down the stairs and then straight past the enemies, they will start to see you but not enough to actually cause an alert if you don’t stop moving

3. Enter the building on your right, walk up the stairs, and keep going straight. None of the guards here will see you if you just walk carefully

4. Disable the security camera and make your way into the next room. Here, use your watch to activate the printer to distract one guard and shoot the other with your phone dart (This doesn’t count as harming him). While they’re distracted, climb up the ledge in the room.

5. From here, climb up the room and jump to the adjacent wall in order to sneak past the two guards below

6. At the next ledge, jump down and grab the green and blue stuff. We’re going to need the phone dart and watch again soon.

7. Head to the right and then jump over the water. Next, walk forward until you can hide behind a box. Enemies will start to spot you, but you’ll be fast enough for them to not even investigate.

8. Climb the nearby ladder

9. It’s a straight path from here. Disable any security cameras with your watch and shoot a phone dart at the final guard watching the exit to finish off this section and clear your challenges.

No Trouble At All

NOTE: This challenge appears to be bugged as I earned it on my first run through the mission despite fighting several enemies. However I would still recommend doing the stealth route I detailed above to clear this challenge.

Silence is Violence

This challenge requires you to do ten stealth takedowns during the chapter. There are a ton of enemies so this should be relatively easy to do.

The Big Bang

There are many explosive barrels during the shootouts near the end of the chapter, just make sure three enemies are by a barrel before you shoot it.

Laser Show

Near the end of the chapter, you’ll infiltrate 009’s boat and need to sneak past several laser beams that kill you instantly. To complete this challenge, we’ll need to use all three methods of revealing where these lasers are

1. Use your phone dart gadget to shoot the pots hanging from the ceiling, this will cause smoke to appear and reveal nearby lasers.

2. Turn on the sprinklers, these will stay on forever and reveal any nearby lasers

3. Bring your smoke bomb gadget into the mission and throw it near a laser to reveal it

Do all three of these and the challenge will clear.

Wheels Up

I’m pretty sure this challenge is unmissable, but just in case, drive at full speed in the vehicle section near the end of the chapter so that the wheels on your car hop off the ground as you drive up the ramps.

Make Them Count

During the final shootout of the chapter, Greenway will hand you his gun. There are 8 bullets in this gun and you need to get 6 kills. Use the Focus mechanic and make sure you get 6 headshots for this challenge.
