The main feature which separates Village in the Shade from other games in the farming genre is the various yokai encounters that the player will need to brave through at night. Venturing into the village at night can be very rewarding at you’ll be able to pick up various magatamas and other rare items scattered on the ground, but there will also be a difficult boss enemy chasing you down. One of the most common yokai encounters in the game is the Hyakume, as they can appear in every season during any type of weather. These menacing balls of black will chase you throughout the village and make items difficult to see. If you’re curious about how to make them leave you alone, here is a quick guide on how to defeat Hyakume in Village in the Shade
How to Defeat Hyakume in Village in the Shade

When walking into the village on nights when Hyakume have spawned in the village, your flashlight will automatically turn off. Keep it off for now as you’ll be using the darkness to bait the yokai toward you.
Walk around the village for a while and you’ll notice black splotches begin to appear around your screen. Make your way to a wide-open area like the Village Plaza and brace yourself. The moment your screen is COMPLETELY covered with these black splotches, turn on your flashlight!
The moment your flashlight turns on, the black splotches will vanish from your screen and the Hyakume will have spawned in the village. Now the hunt it on! Most of the Hyakume look identical and will begin to chase you, with nothing you do being able to slow your down. However, there is one that you can beat.
Run around the village until you spot a Hyakume that looks different from this others. This Hyakume will have multiple white rings and look almost like the bullseye of a target. Equip your bow and SHOOT this Hyakume and you’ll immediately defeat all of them.

If several Hyakume have gathered together, it can be difficult to shoot your target as the invincible Hyakume will get in the way. That’s why I recommend luring them to an open area like the Plaza as you can run around in wide circles there to separate them and make your target easier to hit.
The first time you defeat the Hyakume you’ll be rewarded with a scarecrow. Future defeats will reward you with a house decoration, multiple magatama, or several dorotabo seeds.
