The Blood of the Dawnwalker pulls one of the nastiest yet funniest tricks that a game with a countdown timer can pull. After following a treasure map for one of the game’s multiple treasure hunting quests, the player will find a mound of dirt and might expect to be immediately rewarded or hope that Coen will dig it up with his bare hands. Unfortunately for you, that’s not how the game works, as Coen will instead say that he needs a shovel to dig up the treasure. You likely aren’t going to be finding any shovels in the middle of the woods, so where is one? Where to Find a Shovel in The Blood of the Dawnwalker
While I am sure that there must be multiple shovels out in the world, likely near houses in the game’s small towns, the one I found was by a building that you’ll be revisiting multiple times throughout your playthrough. After completing Anca’s second quest, Echoes of Silenced Bells, she’ll begin to stay in Crossroads Inn in the St. Tyna’s Grove area of the map. It’s in the south east if you’re having trouble spotting it.
This inn is where you’ll find your shovel, as it’s propped up against the building’s right wall. The area is abandoned so no one will mind if you just swoop in and grab it for your treasure hunting purposes.
Once you have a shovel in your inventory, you’ll be able to complete any of the game’s hidden treasure side quests. These quests all involve following the vague directions of a map in order to find a mound of dirt off the main path. If you have a shovel, you’ll be able to dig up the treasure by holding in the interaction button. If you don’t have one, Coen will tell you to come back later with a shovel.
