Hades 2 is finally out on Steam and the Epic Games Store. But, even as an Early Access title, it’s already threatening to be more popular than its predecessor.
Supergiant Games’ 2020 title wasn’t available in Early Access on Steam. However, in its full launch, it peaked at 37,749 players despite the critical acclaim. Its sequel has easily tripled those numbers in a short amount of time.
Over the past 24 hours, at least 103,567 players have logged on to play as Melinoë, the Princess of the Underworld, the younger sister of the first game’s protagonist, Zagreus.
The sequel takes place years after the events of the first game. The younger sister of Zagreus and the daughter of Hades will stand against the Titan of Time, her grandfather, Chronos. But, she isn’t alone. She’ll be daided by the dark sorceress, Hecate, along with her assortment of weapons like spears, as well as sickle and dagger.
How Long Will Hades 2 Remain in Early Access?
Supergiant claims the Early Access version of Hades 2 already has more content than the first game, which says a lot about its ambition. In addition, the studio wants players to enjoy the sequel and make it worth playing. Finally, the developer has confirmed that the progress from the Early Access will carry over to the full release.
With that said, the final version of Hades 2 could be available in early 2025.
According to the official announcement, Supergiant is planning for the Early Access period to last until the end of 2024.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t confirm anything at all. The first game was in Early Access for nearly three years before its release on Epic Games Store and Steam. Hades 2 may spend just as long in Early Access. But, given its level of polish at the moment, it could be much closer to a release build sooner than expected.
Hades 2 will still go through several changes while in Early Access, including character design, art, story, and depth of character interactions.
As an Early Access build, Hades 2 is only available exclusively on Windows PCs.
