Saber Interactive’s highly anticipated action game, Space Marine 2, has stormed onto the gaming scene, setting a new record for the highest concurrent player peak for a Warhammer 40,000 title on Steam.
Launched on September 9th after a successful early access period, Space Marine 2 quickly captivated players with its intense combat, gripping narrative, and stunning visuals. The game’s peak concurrent player count soared to an impressive 225,690 on Steam, surpassing the previous record held by Total War: Warhammer 3.

The sequel to the beloved 2011 original, Space Marine 2 places players in the boots of Titus, a valiant Ultramarine Space Marine, as he battles against the terrifying Tyranid horde and the treacherous Chaos Marines. The game features a thrilling campaign that can be enjoyed solo or cooperatively, as well as cooperative-focused Operations and a competitive PvP mode.
While the Steam peak is a remarkable achievement, it’s expected to be even higher considering the game’s simultaneous release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As the weekend approaches, Space Marine 2 is poised to attract even more players and potentially break its own record.
Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Interactive have already announced plans for the game’s first update, which will address server issues, crashes, and other technical problems. Additionally, the developers have revealed details about the game’s seasonal post-launch content model. Season 2, running from October to the end of 2024, will introduce a new Operations map, a formidable new enemy, a challenging difficulty level, a powerful new weapon, and other exciting additions.
With its record-breaking success and promising post-launch roadmap, Space Marine 2 is poised to reign supreme as the ultimate Warhammer 40,000 experience, at least for now.
