Skate. 4 has plenty of different places to explore when seeking challenges around the city map, or even when simply searching for fun new places to free skate around or host Throwdowns with your friends.

Many of these interesting and fun spots are hidden on top of various high points or building rooftops, making them a pain for players to reach. However, there is a handy glitch trick that enables you to launch yourself into the air, then simply skydive back down onto the point of interest. If you’re wondering how you can use this trick to reach the top of any building as quickly as possible, as well as a rundown of skydiving in Skate. 4, all you’ll need to know has been explained in the guide below.

How to Use The Vertical Slingshot / Flying Glitch in Skate. 4

  1. Set your character height to option 3.
  2. Hold a manual as you get on your board.
  3. Pull all the way back on the right thumbstick to make your character T-Pose.
  4. Open the emote wheel and pick any emote to slingshot yourself into the sky.

Here is a complete breakdown of each step in further detail:

First of all, for this trick to work, you will need to ensure that your character is in height option 3. To change this, you can open the menu and tab over to the character customization screen. From there, simply click the edit appearance button, then scroll down to the height options in this character creator to reselect option 3. There is no guarantee that this glitch will work if your character uses any of the other height options.

Once you have swapped your character’s height, go into any open area and press the button to get back onto your board. As you are getting onto the board, immediately hold the Manual trick button. This is most easily done by tilting the right thumbstick back slightly.

Then, as soon as your skateboard hits the ground fully, pull the thumbstick that you had been slightly tilting all the way back. If you have done this step correctly, you should see the arms of your character raise up, similar to a T-pose.

Though your camera angle may obscure vision as your arms raise, as long as your character’s arms visibly rise up, then you can presume this has worked so far and continue on with the rest of the steps. If it does not work, then simply pick up your board again and try to start over.

As soon as you see your character enter this pose on their board, you need to hit an emote. This can be done by holding L1 on the PlayStation controller or LB on the Xbox controller. This will then pull up your custom emote wheel, and you can use one of the D-pad buttons to select an emote of your choice, since any of them seems to work as the trigger for this glitch.

Doing so should launch you way up into the sky. Once you are up far enough, you can then set a session marker by pressing and holding the up button on the D-Pad.

However, sometimes this glitch may launch you too far away from the map or up into the skybox. If this happens, simply fast travel to a nearby location on your map and try again, or set a session marker where you begin beforehand, and only overtake the session marker with the new one in the sky once you are certain you have got the vertical distance right.

Once your session marker in the sky has been placed, tap up on the D-Pad to return to this marker. You will begin to free-fall down below, enabling you to skydive to the desired rooftop or high point of your choice.

  1. Get into the sky with the slingshot trick, or jump/fall from any rooftop
  2. Hold the R1/RB button on your controller to skydive
  3. Hold X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox) alongside R1/RB to Spread Eagle

To free-fall in Skate. 4, while falling in the sky, hold your R1 button on the PlayStation controller, or RB on the Xbox controller. This enables your character to fall with much more control, and also enables you to move them throughout their descent to land in specific areas.

Furthermore, while holding R1/RB on your controller, you can also hold the X button on the PlayStation controller (R1 + X) or the A button on Xbox (RB + A). This will cause your character to ‘Spread Eagle, ‘ which gives further control to your freefall.

Spread Eagle slows down your skydiving speed slightly and gives more directional control to your landing, making it essential for many challenges or landing on your board/transitioning into tricks following a skydive.

Additionally, you can also do flips/rolls in the air by pressing or holding R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox controller. You can control the direction of these flips with the left and right thumbsticks while continuously holding R2 or RT. By combining the skydiving, Spread Eagle, and flip tricks during your descent, you will be able to, at the very least, crash land onto almost any point of interest in the game.
