Great news for First-Person Shooter fans! Two years after the fantastic remaster of the original Quake, Publisher Bethesda has decided to revisit the franchise once again as they just announced at Quakecon that ID Software’s classic 1997 game Quake II would be re-releasing for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC today. Alongside the announcement of this sudden release date, Bethesda detailed new features that players can look forward to via their website
What Gamers Can Expect from Quake II Remastered
On Bethesda’s website it was announced that this remaster would Include the original Quake II campaign as well as its two Mission Packs; The Reckoning and Ground Zero, plus the previously Nintendo 64-exclusive Quake II 64 and the brand-new Call of the Machine episode from Machine Games.
Players can also expect improvements to gameplay, including content restored from the original development, plus visual upgrades such as dynamic shadows, improved lighting, glow maps, and more.
The game will also feature several multiplayer modes to please all crowds as the game will allow gamers to play local split-screen and online across four Multiplayer modes with crossplay functionality.
These modes are Cooperative, Deathmatch Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag. Players will also have the option to turn on AI opponents in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes if they do not have enough people to play with.
At the time of announcement a trailer for the new Quake II Remaster was uploaded to Bethesda’s YouTube channel.
This new remaster of Quake II is currently priced at $9.99 on all platforms and free via Xbox Gamepass. Any consumer who currently owns the original Quake II on PC will recieve a free upgrade to the remastered version.
