Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Gives First Look at Puzzles

On November 29, 2023, video game publisher Level-5 held a news stream to showcase information on their upcoming titles such as Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, Decapolice, and the highly anticipated Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.

Fans of the Professor Layton franchise have been waiting with bated breath for any footage of the new game. Ever since its reveal in February of 2023, there has been next to no information on the title. After a disappointing lack of it at the Tokyo Game Show, some fans had given up hope for information in 2023.

Thankfully, fans did receive new information this year as, during the news stream, Level-5 released a new trailer for the game. This trailer highlights the first puzzle of the game and gives players a glimpse at what a modern Professor Layton game will look like.

This opening puzzle asks players to figure out the most common window shape in an image full of windows. As the trailer goes through the process of solving the puzzle, we get a look at various returning features from the classic Professor Layton games.

Features include the ability to write on the screen which can be very useful for remembering logic in longer puzzles, and Layton’s hints which can range from not helpful at all to telling you the answer depending on how many times you for help, and the iconic animation for when you solve a puzzle.

Unfortunately, there are no new plot details given in the trailer as it exists solely to give players a look at how the puzzle-solving in this game will work. However, we did get some information about the expected release window for the game.

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be released in the year 2025 for the Nintendo Switch. Fans of the Professor Layton franchise may be waiting a long time for the next entry, but after already waiting a decade they’re excited to be getting a new game at all.
